For wanting to find a way to buy this and get it back here to fix, drive over the summer, and probably take to the Challenge?

That instantly made me think of "Planes, Trains and Automobiles".
You are not nuts, but if the car burns don't continue driving it.

I appreciated the fairy brutal honesty in showing the condition of the car- but for $500 for a 30-year-old convertible it doesn't worry me that much.
Unfortunately I did ask and was strongly advised against trying to drive it back from where it is to home in Lexington. Would have been great if we could have made a slight detour on our way home from WI on Sunday and grabbed it. Still would love to get it, but have to work out getting it back home. Surprisingly SWMBO is actually largely ok with this- she likes it better than several newer and less rusty LeBarons!
StainlessWings, if you don't buy it, I probably will. I'm only 50 miles away and will finish my hitch by this weekend...
That's a scary amount of rust combined with a miserable motor and sketchy transmission.
I'd say keep looking and switch your CL searches to Tennessee, less rust down that way.
And if you need to haul something home yell at me, the suburban is good for that sort of thing.
In reply to StainlessWings: No, I wouldn't say you're nuts. Who am I to judge. Who can say why we want something. One man's pleasure is another man's pain. Anyway I advise you to look like an over excited Chihuahua trying to run on freshly waxed linoleum. Run away my friend, run far and run fast. Not a good investment in time or money. Now if the seller offers you $1K to haul it away, that's another story.
Doesn't look like I'm going to be able to get it- so hopefully someone else will! I'll keep looking.
