All kidding aside, you're right about them being relatively quick for their size, I just dislike them due to the people that typically ride them around here.

and the Can-Am Spyder:
Yup. I don't get them either. To each their own though.
I get stuff like the CanAm and Slingshot. It's a toy, nothing more nothing less.
If I had the $$ to spend on a toy I would be thinking things like, "Can I rallycross it? Can I modify it? How fast would it be on a track? etc." Sometimes I forget that most people don't think like that.
Most of the general population just wants a toy to be a toy. There are plenty of people who would like the experience of blasting around on a motorcycle but don't have the experience riding and/or want to share the experience with their wives and kids without worrying about anyone falling over.
Not to mention a CanAm Spyder is probably, for some people, more comfy to drive to work on a nice day than a Miata.
Yep, it's a fun toy. Seems cooler to me than a side by side or boat that people spend similar toy money on.
As other have said it's a toy, but I kind of like the idea of them. I won’t ever buy one as there are about a million other toy's I'd like first. I can say one thing though. Given an infinite budget, they would be way way higher up my purchase list than an Arial Atom. To me, that's just an overpriced styling exercise gone wrong. I'd much rather have any number of cars than an Atom, including an Exocet (which I like) but with side panels. I don’t' get the whole exo car thing.
The Slingshot looks like it would be a blast to me.
The Can Am not so much.
I think that some of us just are drawn towards what we see as more "pure" experiences, that for me at least usually is associated with a higher degree of difficulty. Therefore motorcycle > quad or trike, a cheap car that you've made fast > a fast store-bought car, manual transmission > automatic, Archery > shooting.

I'll bite, what's an "883"
(don't tell me that's some new GRM stand-in phrase for another word....)
I anticipate seeing them towed by motorhomes on open or enclosed trailers as fun transportation for old people. A feeble old man or woman could have fun in one of these and they are lighter and easier to tow than a Miata.
I think another factor with the Slingshot versus what we would choose to spend our money on is that these are turn key with a warranty. An Exocet or Factory 5 Cobra takes a lot more than a monthly payment.

It's the base model Harley.

Don't forget: hard skinny tires > sticky wide tires
