No, neither had aluminum bodies. They were plain-jane steel. The original 2-seat AMX was special because it was the first 2-seat American sports car since the Corvette and the demise of the 55-57 TBird. By 68 the Corvette had grown beyond the "everymans" car and the AMX could match the performance for much less (not 68 ZL1 performance, but a 390 AMX did take on the small-block Vette's and win in competition at tracks like Elkhart Lake and Daytona). In 71 when it became the 4-seat Javelin AMX it became a looks/performance option package. The Javelin AMX, Hornet AMX, Spirit AMX, and Concord AMX were actually all pretty good cars in their own right.
