Back for it's third championship Bout, The Vega returns to defend it's belt.
Hailing from Dearborn, Ford's answer to the small car, the Pinto. Availible with engines ranging from a 1.6 I4 to a 2.8 V6, the subcompact from Ford could be had in coupe', hatchback, and wagon varients.

I'll pick my pony: the pinto.
Edit: I'll take my pinto with a Turbo Zetec and 5 speed..

Good grief... and I thought chosing between a Gremlin and a Vega was bad...
Going with the Pinto. Mainly because it was available in a wagon and my grandfather had one while I was growing up.

Gah, I wanna say pinto because wagon, but Gremlin is damn near the best car name ever. Ima go with Gremlin. Plus AMC had better liveries.
I'd take the Pinto. Seen them do pretty well in vintage racing, a bit lighter than the Gremlin, and easy to stuff a smallblock V8 or 2.3 Turbo into. Although an SVT Focus motor into Pinto swap would also be fun.

That sure looks like a small block Chevy in there, making it one step closer to an AMC.
In reply to Rob_Mopar:
You're probably right. I just googled v8 pinto. Had a guy come through my work with a 302 pinto, though. I'm sticking with the pinto either way.
Even though the Pinto gave birth to the Mustang II, and front suspensions to countless street rods, I'm sticking with the Gremlin:
And as a foot note, the AMC front end used to be swapped into fat fendered street rods before the MII became the standard.
I don't care for Pintos.
Gremlin for a third time.
My BIL has a 9 second Pinto, and they make great mini stocks, but as someone who has driven both, gotta go Gremlin again.
The only thing uglier than a Mustang II is a Pinto. That's one homely-ass car.
My favorite Great Grandfather had a Pinto that he got new and was driving up through his 80's, I will go with the Pinto.
Well, my Dad had a Pinto wagon he bought new back in '76, and I had the opportunity to drive it a few times. I think it's one of the cars that predisposed me to buy foreign automobiles.
Just in case it needed saying: Gremlin.
It's a sad reality that the youth of today will never know what it's like to cruise the streets, looking for poontang, in a Gremlin with Levi interior. The Gremlin deserves 2 of my votes just because of that interior.
Holy Hell, I have to choose?
Kidding, Gremlin all the way. 401 > 351 on swapability and 304 > 150 on factory installs.
Also I loathe that damnable POS Ford for soiling my good name.
This one isn't difficult. I've owned a couple Pinto's and Pinto is my choice here. The only advantage a Gremlin has here is the availability of a V8 and/or 6-cyl.
AMC They wont blow up on you if you get rear ended in reverse with your turn signal on.
Pinto, pinto, pinto
This E36 M3 trumps the levis interior any day.
Pinto, for it's budget road racing abilities.

That's not a Pinto.
I've had a '72 Pinto Sedan with a 2.0/4spd, and a '74 Pinto Sedan with a 302/FMX, and a '76 Pinto Wagon with 302/C4. I'd be tempted to do a Gremlin just because it's different. But my heart pitterpats more for a Pinto, despite therapy.
Pinto! And a trip through the Esslinger catalogue, please... Erm. Nah, a swap's probably more cost-effective...
Oh, and a fuel cell, depending on year and body style...
So how much longer until Gremlin becomes the answer?
