I had an officer that's a friend of mine tell me that some of the motorcycle cops write tickets all shift long then attend court for those tickets when they're on overtime, and they make alot off money. So maybe it's just the officers quota.

It doesn't really matter if you are 'told' to write tickets or not. Nobody makes anyone become a cop, it's an all-volunteer force. If a cop is writing a bunch of speeding tickets, it's because deep down, they are ok with it. We shouldn't lose sight of that when talking about the policies of departments and governments. The cop on the street still has to be ok bending you over for no 'good' reason, and many of them ARE ok with it.

In reply to Vigo: And along with what Vigo said, in these speed trap towns, they can probably honestly say that they don't have a quota. Several cops assigned by a superior officer to full time traffic duty = a whole lotta tickets. No quota needed.
