It's certainly not the worst thing I've seen made into a ute.

That's actually quite nice. It looks better than I thought it would. And $3500 for the whole conversion is pretty decent.
One issue I have is the ginormous inside fenders. Why so big? It eats up a ton of room.
I posted a few things about this and his mid engine roadster project a while back.
Smythe picked up on it and joined the board. He is probably still lurking here somewhere.
I've been thinking even more about this. I am almost positive that getting a Quattro system to work in a Jetta would be possible. Having a small, AWD Ute ticks so many boxes that I'm kind of in a twitch.

Run away! Arguably the worst year for the Mk IV and one of the worst years for that engine. $1350 is too much money for that car... way too much.
I've been following this kit on FB for awhile now. Definitely interesting. Don't know if I'd build one, though...
IIRC, the size of the rear inner fenders is dictated by the amount of crap stuffed behind the interior panels in a normal Mk IV, much of it emissions related. A necessary evil given Mark's desire to leave the drivetrain essentially untouched (if the owner desires) and how finicky the VW ECU is when you start ripping out stuff it wants to 'see' in order to run.

FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU.
VW Ute with uncorked VR6 noises?
WOOF.
Another thing that just struck me. You're probably going to be looking for one without a sun/moonroof, which might be a hard thing to find in a higher trim package like a GLX (for dem holy VR6 noises and gratuitous coolant leaks).
Not the same gen as the kit...but I guess it really doesn't matter...:

why not just "pickup-ize" an Audi A4 (or A6) wagon and spare yourself the AWD conversion work...
