Hey all,
The rubber pads for my clutch & brake are worn, replacements are pricy and very slippery when wet.
I was considering just cleaning the metal & brushing on some anti-slip coating that has a "coarse sand" style grit (e.g. like type used on boats, metal stairs)...
Any suggestions?
Grip tape for skateboards.
There aren't any junked versions of your car? Methinks pedal pads would be a lot cheaper at the Pick 'n' Pull than from the stealership.

Otherwise, +1 to Gimp's idea. I've done it before, and it works well. Just make sure to adhere the grip tape to metal as it will slip off rubber.
What kind of car? The factory replacement rubber pads are pretty cheap for most cars in my experience.

89 accord, having trouble finding a junkyard set, and all the new stuff is >$13+ shipping for the set, and the aftermarket covers tend to loosen & fall off.
Just curious if there were other alternatives...

thread locker on the fastners
Majestic Honda lists the pedal covers for $3.59/ea.
Either
A: Rip the rubber off an skateboard tape it for a temporary solution
or
B: Break out the drill and tap, and buy a pack of small set screws. Drill a couple holes, thread them, wind in set screws. I see this frequently on BMX pedals. Might work for your application?
I do a +2 to Gimp's Idea. Done that, loved it
I've got a roll of grip tape from a hardwear store it a little more course then skateboard stuff. It is 3m product.
I tried hardware store grip tape on the floorboard of my Targa car. It didn't last a single session on the track. Skateboard grip tape was a whole lot cheaper and much more effective.
I did put some of the hardware store tape on the pedals, it's holding up there.
I don't know if this remains true, but when I was in middle school ~10 years ago and tried to skateboard, grip tape was available in different coarseness.

Use some duct tape and someone elses flip flop (thong). Have you ever stepped on someone else's foot when they're wearing flip flops and they try to pull their foot out from beneath your cross-trainer. The look of horror is a bit concerning after they're done pulling and the their flip flop is still beneath your foot.
The only problem with skateboard grip tape is it will eat through your shoes, and could make heel & toe difficult.
I've got a set of cast aluminum pedals with coarse "grates" projecting from them. They give a good amount of grip, but not too much and they don't wear out my shoes.

I go through shoes like crazy anyway, I found grip tape to work well.
Heel and toe is actually easier becasuse the shoe stays attached to a grip point instead of sliding off.
You can buy non-skid tape used on pickup truck bumpers from the folks at NAPA. I've used a spare tire donut before, cut little patches out of the tread. What else could those things br good for?
