Hey everyone,

Looking for a little advice. I've been looking at Boxsters to replace my MR2 I just sold. I really want another convertible and I want something different than a miata this time. I drove a 2008 Boxster S and just loved the car except one thing, I really needed about an inch more leg room. I'm not super tall at 6'1 but I'm all legs at a 36.5" true inseam and a 34 pants inseam. If I were proportionate, I should be about 6'5"

Are there any little tricks to get that last little bit of leg room? Or is the 986 a little more roomy than the 987? Just looking at non-miata options for a fun convertible.

On Miatas, I remove the front bolts holding the seat to the rails, slide half a dozen washers in between and replace with longer bolts. You may need to loosen the rear bolts a little to make it easier. This tips the front of the seat up, giving you more thigh support and a little more effective legroom.

I have not tried this in my Cayman, but I think that it should work. I probably have photos somewhere of the underside of my Porsche seats.

I couldn't find photos of my Cayman seats, but here is the best picture that I could find of the bottom of one of the GT3 seats in my 911. The Boxster seats should be similar and the washer trick should probably work. Maybe I'll just go ahead and try it out of curiosity.

Similar seat tilt modification is popular in the BMW Z3 community as well using couplers rather than washers.

On the 986 you can remove the lower dash that connects to the center console. The GT2 finish piece finishes the front of the console. Gives you way more legroom than screwing around with the seat.

Cool. Good Ideas. I'll have to test fit a 986. Isn't there an option with the heater controls or something like that which doesn't allow for the GT2 mod? I remember seeing 2 types of dashes.

If the nav system on the 986 is the same as on my 996, that has the heater controls in the center console that you'd remove for the GT2 mod.

Anyone have experience with getting more headroom in one of these? I would love to have a Boxter or Cayman. I am 6'3". I have the legroom issue and the ones I have sat in my line of site out the front is just below the windshield frame. In the Cayman my head was almost touching the headliner.

In reply to bmw88rider: Actually, the 987 has a little more leg room than the 986. On the 987, the elimination of the spare tire allowed Porsche to shrink the trunk and move the footwell forward a couple of inches for more leg room.

FWIW, our 986S had the GT-3 console delete when we got it, installed by the original owner, but I put the original console back in so I have something to rest my knee against.
