Against my better judgment, I'm thinking about modding my DD corolla. I know there is a place out there that supplies hop up parts for the 2zz, anyone do provide something similar for the 1zz?

Nope, virtually nothing for the 1zz. It's a nice engine but it's the modern 4AFE - reliable, economical, completely ignored by the aftermarket.

Edit: Actually when I look around it's not quite as bad as the 4AFE. You can get headers and cams for the 1ZZ, you could only get headers for the 4AFE. Still...not much aftermarket support.

Supercharge it. Of course, you can probably buy 2 good used 1ZZ rolla's for what the kit would cost, buy hey, you wanted to hop it up.

I believe that bullfrog out of the Midwest does throttle bodies and heads for them. Engine management is an issue courtesy of the adaptive ECU. Supercharging is tempting if you can find a complete kit these days, the Blitz kit was surprisingly decent.

There used to be a bunch of stuff for the mk3 mr2.

Monkeywrench racing is a good place to start, theyve got stuff for you. There's plenty out there. Mine makes 214@wheels at 7psi with a garett gt28rs, stock other than the arp head studs.

I'm turboing a 1NZ.

Either Corollas are really cheap where you are, or they're really expensive where I am, or superchargers are REALLY expensive.

When I was looking for one as a non-bogus runaround car, I was looking at ten year old cars that were $5k for anything with a manual trans. Sticker shock.

Maybe all 3, though I'm leaning towards the last one.

I sold my 99 corolla for $3500 just before it hit 100k, then the next month bought a prizm for $3000 with half the miles.

Browsing the aftermarket mods...headers promising +4hp? $450 cams? Woof, I think I'll just keep throwing money at my Miata.

Y2K-ish 1zz Rollas are cheap around here. As I mentioned in another thread, my friend has one with a quarter million miles and a 5 speed. He's owned it either since new or shortly there-after. Sold it to his sister for a few years, bought it back. I've driven it and it's a solid car. Drives better than a Buick with 60K on it. Always had fully synthetic oil. Still on the original clutch. He wants $1000 for it. I see others in that range. Another friend has a similar car with an auto and he paid around that for it. Little more for less miles, etc.

Supercharger kits for anything are not cheap.

Depending on the age of the rolla, the 2zz/6sp swap is neat drop in.....

I have one (99, 5 speed), I plan to keep it stock aside from a more compact muffler soon(giant stock one kills the departure angle) and the spring rubbers I put in to keep the rear from sagging. It's a nice little momentum car with more than sufficient power for commuting, trying to give it more power (short of a 2zz swap) is a fool's errand.

People supercharge these. Otherwise they are not friendly to boost and they have little in terms of NA mods. In fact the mod is just to swap a 2zz in.

People always told me these will fail if you turbo them. I guess you could turbo it, wait for failure, then swap the 2ZZ in and turbo that with the same stuff.

Yeah, the go-to really is swap a 2zz, unfortunately.

However if you want to hop up the suspension I highly recommend Koni yellows and H&R springs.

I wouldn't shy away from boosting a 1zz, they're awesome, it'd be apreciably faster than 2zz swap.

This is the power plant from the spyder, It's a proven, solid, reliable, powerful setup, gets high 20s mpg wise in the spyder (my last agressive road tank was about 28mpg).

It's coming up for grabs for $5, with a tuned e-manage and everything here but the c60. I'm power mad and am going with a boosted 2zzge
