Does anyone know of a US-based road rally event in the spirit of the BABE, other than the BABE? My nagivator wants a change of scenery this year. Or are there any well attended events that are near-BABE budget for something else in the garage?
We've got a:
'79 911
Street legal zero creature comfort Locost
Escort (BABE/Chump car)
Maybe something that we could take the Porsche or gasp the Seven on? (maybe I should fab up some rain gear for the Locost... nah.)
Have you considered any ORR events?
BBORR, SORC, Silver State.
Great fun, great folks. Go as fast as safety equipment and attachments permit!

Maybe a little far west for you?
Hope to see you out there . . .
Isn't there a TSD version of Targa Newfoundland?

I really had fun on the babe rally this year, but even having only done one, there are other parts of the country I'd like to see. I will still likely do it again some year, because the people i met in the way were great. I'm pretty sure the targa Newfoundland is very pricey even in TSD format. I think one lap may actually cost less.
Long, snowy, evening TSD?

A bit far west, yes, but maybe... looks like quite the adventure. From looking at the rules, you can bring pretty much anything you want- I wonder how many '86 Ford Escorts there would be in the GT class ;-)
I prefer off road rallies and would LOVE to get involved.
SCCA still has some road Rallies. I believe some are pretty epic, but true to their name they are a seceret. I have looked for them in the Southwest with no success.

Our local club puts on road rallies. But they're all like 100 miles and completed between lunch time and dinner. (I've got the Southern Indiana Region SCCA annual 2011 rally trophy sitting on mantel currently, pardon my bragging). I was hoping to find a 1000+mile weeklong tour, maybe like the BABE but along the west coast or something.

I can suggest a few options for you. Every year Road Rally Charities puts on a single day TSD road rally, the Midcoast Road Rally, which starts & ends in Des Moines & runs all day (approximately 300 miles). It usually takes place in either September or October and draws around 100 cars. They incorporate some fun activities at the checkpoints. Entry fee has been $100 for the past 3 years. Check it out at www.roadrallycharities.com for more info. They also do a class B roads (i.e. mudding) rally in the spring.
Another option is the rallies put on by Cheese Wheel Inc up in Wisconsin. They do a one day TSD rally in the spring called the C-Dub that runs for about 250 miles and a TSD/scavenger hunt/cruise two day rally in August called the Cheese Wheel 450. The cost on these is about $150. These rallies are more intimate, with about 20 entries. www.cheesewheel450.com for more info & pictures.
All of these are charity events with the funds benefiting the Wisconsin Children's Hospitals, ALS Foundation (Lou Gherigs disease), and many other worthwhile causes.

There's very little like the BABE in the idea of multi day road rallies. Closest bet for a change of scenery would be maybe the Hot Rod Power Tour.
There was supposed to be Beetleball this year which was essentially a Cannoball Run style run from NY to Cali limited to aircooled VWs only but it dropped off the planet and never happened.
Of course you could always fly to Europe and do one of the Street Safari events over there. I have a few Brit teams who owe me a car setup so if you want to do that I can talk one of them into getting a vehicle ready for you over there.
Multi day rallies are difficult to set up, difficult to get participation and expensive so you don't see them much unfortunately.
For everyone that's always wanted to do BABE I would suggest gearing up for the upcoming one in 2013, can't say why but if you've ever wanted to do it, this will be the one you want to do.
Chris, we've tried to talk Justin into west coast routes but the one time he did it, and laid out a lot of cash to plan it and set everything up less than 5 teams signed up, hard to talk a man into trying it again when he was burnt so bad the first time.
