There's a Maxton Rollerskate for sale out there and there is no chance I can get myself out there before the auction ends. Bidding went a bit silly initially but has now come back to normal Rollerskate levels so I'm rather interested.
Anybody willing to look it over for me in exchange for some beer vouchers? Please PM me on here.
I am nearby, but am leaving Thursday for 10 days
Thanks. It appears my timing is impeccable as usual .
Normally i'd love to, even though it'd be about a 7-8 hour adventure, but i'm beyond swamped this week between work and realizing that SWMBO will be very angry with me if we have to take our anniversary trip with a taped up passenger window.
Haha, I'm 3-hours away but was in Ft. Wayne last Friday for Sweetwater's Gearfest. I do have a friend over there, but he's not much of a car guy. How detailed of a car inspection are you looking for Tim?
I'm an hour and a half but not sure when I would have time with extra work and what not...
Tim, I asked a couple car-guy friends in Lafayette if either of them would be available. One is an underwriter in the classic/specialty car division of a major insurer, so there's a chance he may already be familiar with the car. My other friend has built/rebuilt about a dozen cars/bikes, so he's pretty knowledgable as well.
im about 35 miles away but on a car like that id have no clue what im looking for other then rust.

In reply to dropstep:
I'm in the same boat......it'd be a "Oh look, something weird" and that'd be about it.
Well, "it's something weird, but it exists, looks like it does in the pictures, starts and drives" is basically what I'm after. Maybe a check if the frame appears to be rusty underneath, although I doubt that given the mileage. Oh, and see if there is any visible damage to the fiberglass.
I'm just hesitant to bid a pretty large chunk of money on something that may or not exist and may or may not drive.
Forgot to mention - if anybody knows of a specialist shop locally that may be able to go over the car in preparation for a fly and drive, that would be awesome. After all, it's a straight run on I-80 (almost) all the way home.
I'm like 3 hours away, one way. I would but I really can't get away for an entire day that this would take on short notice (before auction ends.)
A couple of points:
1) You comment that you do not want to bid high on what might not be as it seems. Just a reminder, in eBay's term and conditions, bidding on a car is not a binding agreement to buy. I'm not trying to make you, "that guy" but should you arrive and find the car is not as you expected, you are not required to buy.
2) Some local leads. The Auburn Cord Duesenberg Museum is just 30 minutes north of Fort Wayne. That have more than just ACD's (like a Delorean). It might be wise to call them, they certainly are people or know people who could appraise a car.
Also in Auburn, Indiana is The Huge Auctions America Auction House. They too should be able to lead you to a qualified appraiser/inspector.
3) You'll likely need some pre-trip prep if you plan to drive cross country. Keep in mind this is a car that has only sat all its life. It might not be wise to jump right in and expect it to put on 2k miles without issue.
Another long shot...
Fort Wayne has a good SCCA chapter. I have run there in years past but don't know anyone specifically. Off that website, you might send an email to their three top Officers asking for some guidance to some local resources. Or, you might get some discussion going on their facebook page.
