Has anyone here attended a class at DirtFish? I'm thinking this is the year I finally go. I'm pretty sure their instruction is top-notch, so I guess I'm just excited to talk about it.

Yes, I did the basic 3 day school last September.  It was awesome, one of the most fun things I've done in a long time.  I'm going back in the summer for the advanced school, not with any expectation of actually going rallying but just because it's fun!

BTW, if you haven't bought a date yet, there are a number of discounts available.  I think it's 15% for being an SCCA member, and they usually have 20-25% discounts available on Black Friday (they don't stack, alas)

I haven't bought yet. Just got a juicy bonus from work so I figured what better way to spend part of it? Good to know about the SCCA discount. I may return to autocross this year and re-up my membership.

Have fun, I went to the Radwood show there last year and almost signed up for a school. I may in a year or so.

I too was there for radwood. A little ticked I didn't get to do the rally ride along. Spent weeks leading up to the event asking everyone involved trying to figure out how to sign up and got no answer.

Showed up day of and was told "nah, sold out man."

Other than that... cool place.

I went to the 1 day school with a couple of friends. We did the AWD class (RWD also offered). I loved it, it was really informative in terms of handling on loose traction surfaces which I really didn't have before the school.  I also did purchase my class when they had a discount, usually they do them around thanksgiving and Christmas. (as noted above). I of course wanted a little more seat time (who doesn't) but found it to be a decent value for the money.  We did car rotation skills, slalom, high speed offset slalom, and short course driving from what I remember, this was from about 4 years ago.

I showed my e30 there for radwood last year. What a cluster. The school looks amazing though. I'd love to go. It looks like the people there are really passionate.

Any recommendations on when a good time to go is? I figure summer is nice with the sun and warmth and all, but maybe fall would be neat to get experience when it's wet?

Be aware that you'll be spending a bunch of time standing around outside without overhead cover, so if you go when it's raining you're going to get pretty wet.  I went in early September, it was cold in the mornings (well, by California standards) but beautiful in the afternoons.

The AWD school is in STis, the RWD in BRZs.  Friends of mine who'd gone before recommended the RWD as being more fun -- you do more of the sliding on the throttle and less on the brake, so that's what I did.

I did drive an AWD car to get there though! :)

I did springtime, and you can see the conditions in my pics, they do use a water truck to keep the dust down as well. It was a nice day for the time I was out there.

I'm leaning towards the BRZs too, for that slippy slidey fun.

Good to know about the lack of cover. I have plenty of raincoats (like any good Portlander) but standing the rain still gets tiresome.

I will say that on the WRXs they perm lock the center diff so you do get immediate off throttle rotation, that was super interesting to experience to me. Having the extra power wasn't a bad thing either.  Both classes should be a blast.
