Absolutely zero inside knowledge, but I doubt $45K. I'm guessing $35 to pushing, but still under $40K. Also don't forget that most of the world displays prices including tax unlike the US. So £30K in the UK includes 20% sales tax, so the real sticker is 'only'£25K or right around $40K USD. Also don't forget the UK is always higher on pricing than other countries for whatever reason.
My guess was always "because they can", plus the fact that the biggest new car markets are for either leases or company cars. Car prices in the UK are really weird, new cars are fairly expensive (IIRC only Denmark has more expensive new cars in Europe), but they also have monster depreciation. Used cars that are a few years old tend to be much cheaper than over here.
Regarding the prices for the RS, all I've seen in the UK media is speculation. The expectation is that it will be priced similarly to a Golf R, but noone really knows.

I am very excite! As much as I love this thing, truth is I'd rather have an Ecoboost 4-banger Mustang with Recaros if I were buying a new car. And I'm a Focus Fanatic.
My sentiments exactly. I live where it snows and I think I still want an ecoboost mustang over the RS.

I like it. A lot, but I feel like I already have it and it's called WRX. Where was this car a decade ago?

I live where it snows and I have two kids... no way do I want a Mustang when I could drive an AWD 5-door hatch.
I hope they price the RS even remotely close to the ecoboost stang!

They don't make a WRX/STi hatch anymore. There's only the Golf R. So I'm happy for the competition.
Having driven both a Focus ST and a new WRX on an autocross course, I can tell you that the Focus handled the course much better and with less understeer. The AWD version looks like it could be a blast. Can't wait to try one.
I have nothing good to say... Except what is the over/under on the first brodozer to smash one up attempting to be Ken Block?
Ford is nailing it these days. I love that we can choose between a muscle car and a rally car all on the same lot.

Exactly the same as an STi, Mustang, Camaro, Corvette, Viper, Hellcat...insert performance car deJour here.
The focus seems like a shorter wheelbase/more compact car always to me than the STI but I could be wrong. I originally bought a focus SVT in 2002 because of a love of Focus rally cars so this hits the right buttons but pricing will likely make it a non option for me (trying to save for a house in southern california)

Aren't both the Golf R and STi in the mid-30's? The RS can't be $45K.

Excellent point, $45K would be a bit too much of a stretch from the ST version! Considering the ST and the GTI are priced competitively, the Golf R is starts at $37,000 so the RS should be in that ballpark. $35K would be nice!

Still has a door surplus.
As a child of the eighties ths makes me very happy. These are "the good old days". From the ND miata to the LaFerarri there is something (fwd, rwd, awd) for everyone who has the resources. I may not have the resources, but I am happy for those who do.

So does the Golf R, Subaru and Evo. No boost buggies with 2-3 doors.

I lnow they don't make a WRX 5 door anymore. I was thinking more of the one in my driveway than one sitting on a dealer's lot.
I'll buy one... as long as I can get it out the door for under $45kcdn (all in). I am totally behind it otherwise.
If I can't... while it is awesome, I have hard time paying that for the fosuc when I could get an awd bmw or audi at that point.

So a RS is some kind of Ford. That's interesting.

I assume this is some kind of joke. Ford RS goes back to 1967 for the highest performance versions of cars, or specials in the case of the RS200

I'd totally drive an Isetta.....hilariously fun little things.
In reply to Rupert:
The RS name has been a worldwide thing like how "GT" on the mustang and other muscle cars was here.
In reply to Adrian:
RS first started on the early Escort didn't it? Shortly after the "We shipped Ford Cortina's to Lotus" era?

Autoweek is guessing in the $35K range, which seems reasonable. One can't do a direct currency conversion compared to UK pricing - their prices always seem to be substantially more (taxes?).
2016 is going to be tough for me. Between the RS, the pending Volvo V90 and the possible VW GTD Sportwagon, or maybe even a Mustang GT350 I'll probably buy something.
