If the call is for a group of cars, that is an extra job. If they are looking for a specific car, then it will most likely be used as a main characters car.

I have a friend who has had a few of his classics used in movies as background vehicles. Usually it's just a day shoot, maybe two.

I can't find the message my friend tagged me in on Facebook, but I remember it looking for certain BMW's, maybe a bus or something, and like the last or second to last line said something along the lines of "vehicles from 1978 to 1987". So yeah, pretty much background noise.

I've always said that once I sold a car it was gone and I didn't care what happened to it, but I think this would break my heart. I'm basing that on the cars that I had an emotional attachment to, not my daily appliances. I know I'm in the minority here, but I didn't hate that movie.

I bought the Jeep (4 cylinder 5 speed) for $1800, swapped in a new transfer case, added a snowplow, plowed for a season, and drove it for a year and 10,000 miles. It was pretty much used up when I sold it to them for $3800(?). I kept the plow.
