I'm so freaking car/van/SUV/truck crazy that its negatively affecting my social life with Craigslist and everything else. Sometimes I feel like I should just keep what I own and ignore my fantasies.
Anyone have any input?
(I own a 2002 Protege5 and a 1995 F150 Flareside 4x4 Supercab)
Will trade 367,000 mile 1991 integra straight up for MP5. 
I've got 6+ years into both my ms3 and my Cooper S- I just buy/sell/trade random beaters when the urge strikes.
I keep wanting to change but so far can't on my Jetta TDI and miata ;p
mndsm has the same idea as I do. Keep the ones you love and play with sub $3k cars in the mean time. I try to experience (own) at least one new car or motorcycle each year in addition to a reliable econo-box and my classic.
I only own sub $3000 cars as it is!
Since I started driving at 16, and the first car that was "mine":
99 Maxima for 6 months. Dad totaled it. Likely would still be in the family (7 years later) if it survived.
02 SAAB. My older brother got it after me.
(No car for freshman year of college)
91 E30 convertible. Went into storage for the winter
02 SAAB. Again.
91 E30. Again.
02 SAAB. Again (moved apartments, parking situation was crappy so the E30 went home).
99 Miata, in November of 2010. Little brother got the SAAB. That was sold, now he is in the E30 (for the summer).
SAAB stuck around for 4 years, the E30 has been in the family (between Dad, my little brother, and I) for 8 years, the Miata is going on its 3rd year.
I still drive the Miata every day. I honestly don't see it going away any time soon; when it does go it will probably go to my little brother. If I am able to buy a house before that happens, I will probably just add a second car.
I already have exactly what I want. I only look at Craigslist when I need a reminder that the grass is burnt and brown and full of dog poo on the other side of the fence.
I am going to keep my daily driver (2004 Forester XT) until the wheels fall off. Then I'm going to put new wheels on it and keep going. They don't make a car like that any more.
Aside from that, I'm finally in a "fun" car I plan to live with for a while. As I've gotten older, I don't have the time to wrench on up to four broken cars at a time. I've got to keep the daily drivers driving and the RX-8 promises to eat up all of my project time in the near future.
Psssh I only have sub 1k cars.
I look all the time, but really have no intention of buying anything. I've come to realize I enjoy looking more than purchasing 
I both keep, and roll through cars. I still own cars I bought in 1976 and 1982, my IT Neon has so much money in it I couldn't bring myself to lose that much money selling it, and I've owned a pickup truck almost non stop since 1977...only 6 trucks in total, for a sum total initial purchase price of about $5,000.
I have bought and sold 50-60 cars over the last 5 years, too.
Wait, you SELL cars? I thought you were supposed to keep them until it was thoroughly used up, then you took off the rare and/or recently installed bits and scrapped the 3 pounds of iron left in the rotted carcass... AFTER continuing to drive it while you scanned eBay and Craigslist for the next car.
Sell a car... hmph. If it's worth selling then it's worth more keeping!
I've owned the GT6 for 18 years, and my dad owned it for 25 before that :)
For DD's I tend to keep them until they're paid off and have enough flaws to be annoying as a daily (I spend ~2 hours in my car each day, so I prefer to be in something that I enjoy and that doesn't annoy me). Then I sell them when I'm ready for a new/newer DD, since I have no space to just keep old cars lying around.
The e30 I expect I'll keep a long time since I have long-term plans with it
The e21 I expect I'll keep a long time since it's going to take a long time to do my build, and then I'll be attached to it.
Other past cars (old integra, old XJ, another very rusty GT6) I kept for a bit and then sold for no profit, just because I ended up not liking them for one reason or another....

I'm trying to keep what I already own. The goal when I purchased my DD ("The Appliance") was to keep it at least 3 years. 1.5 down and I've already looked for different replacements... but I'm really trying my hardest to keep it for a long time. It may need some upgrades to keep my interest, but I'm really really trying not to go down that road.
I find often that the longer I own a car (especially a beater/dd), the less work it requires.
Keep whatcha got if it's working for you.

I have had my SVT Focus for 7 years now, and I still enjoy driving it. It is thirsty and it only drinks 91+, but it is also paid off.
"Paid off" and "mine" are attractive words. I do believe I will sell the Protege5 and try to dd the truck I love to drive and own.
If that doesn't work out (~12mpg) it's fun appliance 5-seater time, ~$2500 time (Still can't settle on which one as evidenced by all the threads I've started here).
Coming form the IT world, I've adapted to RAID array to my fleet: the Redundant Array of Inexpensive Cars.
I think it most of the time it is better to keep what you have but of course everyone wants to try new and different cars. If you drive a lot tho I think that 12 mpg will kill you.
A toaster to get me to work that I will keep for 10 years; Currently the FRS A classic toy car that is on the road and in good shape; Currently MGB GT for 32 years A long term project car in the shop; Just finished Bugeye, now building Frankencar.

25 cars and holding, probably about to expand the collection soon though. Selling cars, I never considered that
So the core cars in my fleet are pretty well set. The wife has her C30 and my Forester XT. I see them being around for a long time. I'm expecting 150K miles out of both which means they should last for another 10 years based on current driving. They just meet our needs too well and are both paid off in a year.
The one that rotates is the 3rd toy car. Right now it's an MR2 Turbo but I'm looking to sell that to get another convertible. In that slot has been an MSM, 94 Miata, Mustang, 4g63 swapped Mirage, and a rx7 over the last 10 years. I use that to scratch my car itches.
