Anybody ever try to do anything with this engine? My mom had a fairmont station wagon with it, it worked as a dd for her. A futura popped up in my area and I'm wondering if I can do anything fun with it.

So besides a swap, can these be built up?

http://www.shop.cliffordperformance.net/Ford-200_c9.htm This is the only website I think of when performance and Ford inline 6ers are mentioned in the same sentence.

The Philson Falcon:

Hemmings said:

Built by machinist and USAC tech inspector Norbert Philson in 1959, the Philson-Falcon features a tubular ladder frame of Philson's design and a considerably reworked Ford Falcon six-cylinder engine fed by three SU carburetors. The special is owned by Charles Bordin of Scarsdale, New York.

I have a 78 zephyr wagon with the 200i6. There isnt alot worth doing on a budget short of following linc's turbo set up on fordsix.com, the bigger 300i6 has a better aftermarket but its not really a bolt in to the fox chassis. For less work you can go 302. As much as i like my car and wanted too avoid another v8 swap its the practical route.

The only way to make any kind of power is boost or tracking down a head without the cast in intake.(australian head or the aluminum ci set up if you can find one).

If i was going to spend money on the 200 i would just copy lincs blow through set up.

A built NA 200 is about 200 horse and parts are pricey. Seems like a waste to spend 5k to run 15s.

The 170/200 I6 engine was designed for use for grocery getting and little old ladies. Any effort and/or money spent to "improve the performance is a waste of time and money.

The guy who ran Classic Inlines passed away and no one is stepping in to take over the business so the solitary source of the one item these motors so desperately need is gone.

I am talking about his alloy 12 port head.

I have resigned myself to the fact that the Falcon lays down 60hp at the wheels and am just living with it.

By chance did you try contacting the guy mentioned in this post? http://fordsix.com/viewtopic.php?f=46&t=73807

There is a lot of cast iron in them, so they work quite well as a boat anchor.

I overhauled one once, 100K miles. No measurable wear.

Im not suprised, mine has 110k on it and has been really abused for the last 4k or so and the valvetrain still looks great.

Linc on fordsix was blowing 26psi in a stock one with no issue. There stout but they dont make much power!

I had two 78 Fairmont s/w and a Futura w/200 as dd. If I had any of them again a 289 or 302 would be installed.

From what I've read, it seems that just about any old american iron on boost will make at least 80hp/L, maybe as much as 100, if you keep the revs down and don't goof up the tune. I wouldn't bother trying to make power with one NA, or turbo higher than the stock guts will take, unless you have some crazy aversion to a V8. EFI would be tricky, maybe use a GM V8 TBI?

There should be one buried in my Mother garage if you want one for parts. I hate to scrap a good engine but I have no use for it.

Took a look at it, s but worse for wear. Probably a quart of oil leaked out in 2 days and it's got random other issues
