Within the last week or so my lady suddenly got really interested in the Lexus RC cars, so last night we test drove a 2015 F sport. I was impressed with the fit and finish, the sound of the V6, and the blue paint, not so impressed with the seat bottom which isn't great for long legs. (Not a problem for her at 5' 0."). She loved the car, although she gets initially pretty excited about anything new and different. The F sport has adaptive dampers and 4 wheel steer, and I'm wondering if it's worth the slight premium over a base 350.

The other day she was talking about being interested and both the RC and a newer 86/BRZ, so I asked her what she wants to actually do with the car, because one is a personal luxury coupe and one is a sports car with less creature comforts and more of a motorsport lean. "I'm not interested in track days, I just want something that's cool-looking and faster in a straight line than my Mazda3." I think the little 3 is great with the 2.5, but she was loving the RC's V6 noise last night. Has anyone lived with one of these for a year or so? She can drive my truck if she needs more room, as the RC rear seat is fairly tight, though all her best friends are petite. I did check that the rear seats fold flat though, so trunk space is fairly good. Any great mpg increase or ease of service with a rwd version vs the awd? I never loved my IS300 which I traded last year for an FC RX-7, but I was looking for sports car sharpness, and she just wants a cool daily. At any rate I just feel lucky to have a partner who isn't clamoring for a crossover.

I think your take is spot on. Bear in mind there are two different V6's, I think they switched over in 2018. The newer 3.5L adds more complexity and gets you ~+5hp. The pre 2018 cars used the same motor that was in the IS350, which I had for years and loved. What's nice is both variants use direct and port injection, so you don't have to deal with the carbon buildup that plagues a lot of DI engines.

If you can live with the small interior space, it's a pretty good looking car, but the porkiness kinda kills them for me. An IS350 weighs almost the same and has a real backseat. If you catch the modding bug, RR racing sells a bunch of parts for the V6 now

In reply to calteg :

The model designations are confusing, I think early on there was an RC300 with a less powerful V6, but after a certain year the 300 is a 4 cylinder? I don't think she'd modify it, though she was laughing maniacally when I told her to floor it up an entrance ramp yesterday. She just paid off her Mazda3, so the biggest decision will be whether she wants a car payment again.

The engine hierarchy has always been: turbo 4, V6, V8 in the RC-F. They did shuffle the name of the lowest trim level a few times, but I believe the motors were the same, except for that MY18 changeover.

I've had the turbo 4 in loaners a few times, you definitely don't want that motor
