Because I can help you out there.

To be clear, I'm not asking for someone to do the work. Just thought that if anyone's interested in helping on this project it'd be a way to see another car/procedure.

I'm no expert but I do have a book.

I had my 951 head off so I could change the burned valve it suffered at the Glen. My first time ever pulling a head, and I did it just following the online write ups and taking my time. Easy job as it turned out - I did it over a couple weeks here and there but if I had to crank it out it could be done in a day.

Is there a PCA chapter in Austin? My local chapter would have jumped at the chance to do it as a tech session if I had wanted to crank it out in a day, and I would have had lots of expert help that way too.

It's not that bad of a job. The worst part was getting the cam tower off, since my 6mm allen socket was too big around to fit in the access hole. I had to make a longer 6mm allen socket by cutting the end off of an "L" shaped 6mm allen wrench and using a regular 6mm socket to turn it. Then one of those bolts stripped and I had to hammer a torx in there to break it loose.

Are you positive it's the head gasket? The only reason I ask is because bad oil cooler seals can also cause coolant to get in the oil and give you that normally tell-tale milkshake oil that's indicative of a BHG.

It's the head gasket. There's standing coolant in the #2 cylinder. No evidence of milkshake. I actually overheated the car and made the mistake of trying to nurse it home. It died, I got a tow, and here we are.

I'm finding that the hardest parts (so far) are removing the intake (can't get to the hoses under the manifold) and disconnecting the exhaust from the exhaust manifold.

I'm not in any rush; figure this will take me a couple of weekends beyond what I've already done and I'm fine with that.
