Hello Hive.

Anyone try the HART (usdirectparts) or the PowerSport (Brakelabs) off ebay?  both are coated rotors with pads.  Normal my go to has been powerstop z26 kits  however, they do rust up nasty.

I've checked Maxbrakes.com and nothings in stock for either car i need to get brakes for. and frankly when they show two prices for same part number and you try to order it suddenly "not available" makes me question the site and company.

I have no experience with these, but would welcome your opinion after you try them.

We'll the two brake kits got here Thursday from PowerSport (Brakelabs) off ebay.   I had the day off to do the rear wheel bearing that was noisey but refused to get worse but got tired of hearing about it on the WRX...  Anyway, we had a trip for the weekend planned so i opened up the 1st box grab a rotor and it was Subaru...the pads in the box were not... errr. the parts boxes are black with only one number on them that don't match anything on the listing page.  A quick rip into the other box with the Cobalt rotors found the Subaru's pads.  An inspection of the rotors found the fronts were machined differently but the important surfaces were fine. Where they differ is in two spots 1st i noted was on the inside where they fit over the hub one has a slightly larger bore with a step near the hub flange.  the dimension as the step was the same and left clearance for the hub.  The other difference was on the face of the rotors where the brake pads do not ride one has an undercut groove the other doesn't and the one without the undercut looks to be rougher cut. (my guess is it was removed before it was finished)  I found I had to replace one rear caliper as it had a rust bubble on the piston side and would not retract.  After a quick bedding 45 min or so  they seemed very grippy and stinky.   After an hour or so cool down we loaded up and were off to the cape (cape cod that is) brakes got more bedding in as it was 80 mph to 30 in a split second.... the whole way down.  These are the best pads I think we've ever had on the car. the initial bite is very grippy and if you don't press any harder the stopping power ramps up on there own.  We shall see how long they last.  I've never really been a fan of slotted and drilled rotor BLING stuff but the gold zinc plating inside and outsold me.  Time will tell how well the none wear surface holds up it did rain over the weekend and the wear surface on the fronts did have light surface rust the rear looked more like white water spots.

So right now I'm loving them. we will see how the Cobalt's do when i find time to get them done and get the snow tire put on at same time.  As for the mix up on the pads, I ordered two kits so they likely just miss boxed not a real problem likely not happen on a single order.

Oh forgot to say the "Kit" did not come with new clips for the caliper brackets.  The Subaru has snap in SS clips the pads ride in.  Strange they were not included with the pads as most of the time they are.  I just washed the old one and poped'em back in.

I've purchased kits from Maxbrakes.com twice now for my 3. The set I have on there now with the carbon metallic pads is decent for the money. I had the regular ceramic pads last time and I got about 70k miles out of them and they still had some meat left, but the carbon metallics stop better.

So For the Cobalt SS I needed new calipers as the boots on the slid pins were junk and I'm tired of freeing them re-lubing every 3 months..  on went the PowerStop calipers on all for corners with new drilled and slotted rotors an ceramic pads from the Brake Labs kit.   It's nice to have great brakes again.  On the cobalt there not as self-energizing as they are on the WRX but definitely the best pads, I've had on it for bite hot or cold.  We will see how they wear, rust and last.

As for the calipers the rears had NO lube in the sliders....  The left front was good the right front had rusty lube on the pins when i pulled'em out so had to clean out  and relube them.  Why go with PowerStop calipers not the normal re-mans?  Cause JEG's had great pricing and it was only $40 for nice powder coated units over AZ or AA autopart stores and I didn't get core charges from Jegs!
