I know there are a few thousand factors of BSFC, but I wondered if there was a way to simulate a map based on engine parameters. Or is it running test only?

If the model was accurate for spark, both for MBT and knock, it should be pretty accurate.

That's the real hard one to model. And has a big effect with not a lot of retard from MBT.

I'm not necessarily concerned with WOT BSFC... more with just the straight comparison of brake torque to engine speed.

Spark is hard to predict at all speeds and loads.

There is a map for MBT spark, and another for borderline, and then adjustments to both depending on air fuel.

And all of that changes combustion efficiency.

MBT? help me out on that one.

Best spark.

some call it Max Brake Torque spark

Others call is Min spark for Best Torque.

Either way, it's the spark that delivers the most efficient combustion for that system.
