I've never studied my options other than to find out that direct tv won't work at my location due to where the house is located. I'm open to suggestions though!

Still no.

I have to agree with this statement. I don't understand this recent "I'm better than you because I don't use cable or satellite to watch tv" attitude folks have been having lately.

Mine as well, plus SWMBO has stated every time I bring it up that she really likes all of her fancy channels and DVR. I on the other hand never turn the thing on unless it's to watch a DVR'd race or occasionally a football game. Basically the internet is cheaper bundled with cable for us even though she pay's extra for the fancy channels.

They have all that extra bandwidth from not having a facebook or twitter so they have to do something besides tell everyone about it. Might as well watch streaming TV.

I unplugged a few years ago. I don't look down on anyone for still being plugged in but I just want them to know there are options these days.

Now, what do you think about Velocity? Worth anything?

Velocity=what Speed channel would have been, if it had car programming without racing.

It's still in it's infancy, but it's generally good. Overhaulin', Chasing Classic Cars, Wheeler Dealers among others are generally watchable shows. Some have limited appeal; while I like Graveyard Cars because I know guys like that, the content of actual car stuff can be aggravatingly low. And then some shows like the Texas junker rebuild contest (whatever the heck it's called) and others of their ilk are just painful.

One thing I learned in reading about GC's Mike Worman is that a lot of these shows are not made by the channel. They are made by individual production companies (Worman has his own) and are then sold to the channel. In an effort to fill time, Velocity will buy stuff that isn't terribly great, but probably at a great price.

If not for Velocity, a news channel that most of you hate, and a couple of shows like Restaurant Impossible I wouldn't watch tv anymore. My wife, however, is horribly addicted to endless shows that are complete time wasters, so I can't sever the pay tv without causing (more) marital strife than I already have.

rofl, no E36 M3. I guess if that's what gets me called an ass, then i'm okay with it. The wife and I have been cable free for going on 2 years and I can say, I don't miss it. In between Netflix, Amazon Prime (the free 2 day shipping you get with this pays for itself), streaming TV from websites, and no I'm not ashamed, a couple visits to a bay full of scalywags, I pretty much see anything I want when I want.

I pay $45 a month for 10mb DSL, $6 a month for Prime, and Netflix is $8 a month, so total I spend $59 a month for all the commercial free content I can stand.

Can I get my flair changed from "Reader" to "Ass"?

If you were making a joke, that's fine, but remember, sarcasm doesn't seep through the computer screen, so use a "" next time and then we can all tell you were making a joke.

I still go by my statement that there is a recent attitude for people around here who have "unplugged" and seem to talk to the people that still have cable and satellite like they are making the most stupidest decision in their life. I am getting sick of it. It doesn't make them better and they still have to pay to play regardless. Maybe not as much, but still. If someone chooses to have the coax hook up, that's their choice.

My wife wouldn't be able to handle unplugging. She likes having the DVR and being to be able to watch the shows the day they air. We do have Netflix on my Blu-Ray and Kindle, so we can watch past shows as well. I'm content with what I have.

One, the "your old school because your have a tv service" is generational. My 20 year old son doesn't even own a tv. It is much like being an Apple snob.

Two, Velocity is great and it is what Speed could have been. That said some of the programming is dated.

Three, have a pleasant day.

Yes it does.

We are superior, assimilate.

We did it approaching 4 years ago. Which means that is $5000 I haven't spent on cable since then. Around here you had to have all the high end junk to get Speed so I could watch F1. So our cable/internet bill was $170 back then, I'd hate to see how much it is now.

mine, including phone is in the $150 range .. but for now it's still worth it to me …

don't know what my 89 yrO Mom would do without TV .. her eyes are getting bad enough that lots of reading isn't always possible ..

+I like my stick and ball sports … the un-plugged route would put a hurting on those

and yeah I also get tired of the "superior" attitude of the un-plugged … if it's what is good for you … GREAT … but since you (that's the royal you … not anyone in particular) can't put yourself in my shoes, how 'bout stopping with the poking fun

To me it seems like a lot of the shows on Velocity are reruns, which is fine until you've seen them all, and then it's kind of annoying.

it's not all that easy … most areas are served by one cable co. so what they charge is what you pay (assuming you want they're product)
