I remember the dot-com 90s fondly. Great time to be a 20-something computer engineer.
It sure screws up stats that use 1999 as the reference point!

Writing books for a niche market is not a smart move. You do just as much work as you would for a mass market book, but sales are much lower. My dream is to one day have a book that sells in airport bookstores so I can retire. That said, the books have been worthwhile. They allow me to build things like the Targa Miata slowly over a decade.
Like Mr Deuce, I married better than my wife did
Man, was that ever off topic.

Time to start cranking out the romance novels!
Post-apocalyptic vampire werewolf teen fiction.
So much for the intelligent information and thought.

Hey, when you say "s-plan" what does that mean? I ask because I'm looking at a cx3 new. Someone also mentioned an "E-plan"?
They're both discount codes, supposedly for employees. S-plan is basically dealer invoice. It's relatively easy to score one of these, Mazda Motorsports is a good source.

E-plan is 4% below invoice. A little harder to get, I pinged a couple of my internal Mazda contacts.
Somewhere I have a PDF with MSRP, S and E laid out for 2017. The savings aren't spectacular over what a good haggler could manage, but it's easy. The discounts are bigger on the MX-5 than the CX-5.
Ah, found it.
PDF of pricing

Yup, S-plan through Mazda Motorsports is what I just used to buy our new CX-9. Things like this make buying a car civilized, none of that "I'll have to take it to my manager" BS.
Me too.. I might have been able to squeeze a few hundred more out, but meh, this was the behaviour we all say we want to enforce: a stated price, a smooth transaction and no wasted time.
I used a similar discount when I bought my Dodge through my wife's work. Walked in, said "what do you have with a stick in this trim level?", and took it home. So easy. The final price was about the same as a used truck with 30k or so.
Look around, ask around. The S-plan codes are obtainable. You can't just find a discount code, it's tied to your name. But you should be able to find a way especially if you've done some sort of motorsport. Mazda will give team support pricing to anyone who does two trackdays or autocrosses a year, and they have some sort of provision for people building a car. Maybe, just maybe, you can find a way to turn this into an S-plan code. It's worth the time on the motorsport website or a phone call to find out.
If you work for a largish company, then ask the benefits people there. Most big companies have a ton of discounts negotiated with their various corporate partners for their employees, and Mazda S-plan may well be among them. It doesn't even have to be particularly automotive-related, back when I worked at Cisco they were a corporate partner of Ford, and had X-plan (essentially the same thing only for Ford/Lincoln/Mercury vehicles) available for Cisco employees.
