We had a little field trip at work yesterday--got to go up to JG's shop and watch the "filming" of the weekly Facebook Live show. We're adding more goodness to these shows, with an actual camera operator as well as a tech present to monitor the broadcast as well as make sure comments are read and answered. Here's Tom and Ed doing the behind-the-camera thing while JG explains his magnehelic gauge and how to use it:

Next week's "Watch us Wednesday" (yeah, I know, super corny name) will cover more aero tips, including the live installation of hood vents on our Mustang project. That'll probably be an evening broadcast, and we'll be announcing the time on our Facebook page that morning.

Shameless plug over. But it really was cool to watch--and if you actually go to JG's shop, you get to visit the donkey that lives next door. I'm advocating for more donkey time on our broadcasts, btw.

Can we get footage of the parrot making donkey noises?

Looks like fun. Do these get archived for viewing somewhere other than Facebook?

Right now they're only viewable on the book of faces, but we're working on getting them posted to the GRM YouTube channel after the fact. That might even become a reality with next week's broadcast, depending on how glitchy the technical glitches are. We'll let you guys know either way.

In the meantime, you can go to our FB page and watch the recorded videos, and Like us to make sure you get notification of when we're about to go live.

I have enjoyed the ones I have had the opportunity to catch. I need to go back and watch the ones I missed.

When broadcast is after work hours and I'm at home - yes. When at Noon or 3PM and I'm at work - no.

I have watched a couple of the recorded videos, but it's more fun to watch live and make fun of JG - err... I mean "add comments" ... when he can answer back.

To be honest, if you want a good number of regular viewers, you need to pick a time at generally stick with it. I also follow Adam Ferrara and he does a FB Live broadcast every Tuesday at 9PM Eastern. He gets a fair number of viewers since you always know when he'll be on.

Rocket car was the best.

Been a regular on the Wednesday live FB broadcast as it's my day off. Tried to get on yesterday 2/22 at the start but couldn't, tried 6X after that w/ only a blip of a video at start, then nothing. Maybe it was on my end tho.

Watched the video just now, highly informative as usual. I have nothing in competition now but can see the benefit of tweaking aero. After installing a hard tonneau on my PU highest fuel mileage went from 27.5 to 31.7 mpg per vehicle computer, FWIW.

Speaking of dirty air, if you ever clay barred your vehicle the tailgate or rear valance is by far the dirtiest on the vehicle, coincidence, most likely not. Thinking of toying w/ adding a rear spoiler now.

Familiar w/ the Magnahelic gauges as we used them on the NG fired curing ovens, like a 30'+ pizza oven w/ forced air heating and cooling sections. Basically we balanced the draft out in each section, misunderstood by most but the oven factory techs had it down to a science. $70 for that gauge is prolly a bargain for the learning experience it could provide. I'll play.

GRM FB Wednesday is a plus. Throw in a rocket motor segment now and then.

This is a battle we're fighting, and part of the reason that the live shows are still in "public beta" phase.

On one hand, we definitely get better numbers at night.

On the other hand, we definitely get a different audience during the day than we do at night. So our total reach is increased by mixing up the shows.

As this gets more "real," we're also adding people to the mix. It's not just me and a cell phone anymore. Doing shows after typical business hours gets more complicated when more people are involved.

All that said, we are looking at ways to "standardize" the schedule somewhat. If we can settle in to some sort of alternating day/evening routine I think that might work out well.

I enjoyed the one I got to watch, even if it was the AEM hiccup episode. It's awkward, time-wise, but I guess it'll always be so for someone. It's always fun to watch J.G., though.

Huh.

So FB has a live broadcast tool they use to encourage people at work to not do their work and watch videos all day? Who da thunk?

No, sorry. No FB here. Kinda glad- I'd hate to get fired for watching GRM videos all day!

You'll need to log in to post.
