In 35 years of car ownership, I've only owned 2 automatic transmission vehicles. The first was an Aspen station wagon in 1988.

The second is the 07 Kia Rondo V6 I picked up in July.

It's sinse developed a growly whine (sounds bearing-ish), which all indications are pointing at it coming from the outboard end of the transaxle.  It happens under light load, and will usually completely disappear once everything is warmed up, but not always.  I've done 4 X 4l drop and refills of the fluid.  No glitter in it and negligible metal on the magnet.  No burnt smell at all

Otherwise the car is in ridiculously good condition.  Low mileage (140000kms/87000 miles). Absolutely no rust, even underneath.  Spotless interior.  It's really awesome for traveling, and will fit bike frames standing up in the back, so I'd really rather not get rid of it if I can avoid it.

I had it at a local shop today, and they were unable to pinpoint the issue.  Their advice was to take it to a Kia dealer and see if they're familiar with the problem.  So, where to go from here?  Dealer?  Transmission shop?  Pick-n-pull?  Junk it?

What is the advice of the all knowing hive?

CV joint or wheel bearing? Since the transmission fluid looks good I'd be tempted to just keep running it. Maybe try the dealership if you are really concerned.

In reply to bgkast :

I should have mentioned, I changed the left wheel bearing and cv's.
