Yikes ! Your thread had me scared at the beginning, now I'm frightened to death ! !
You asked, "Did the thing die on the stand or something?"
I have a 5.0/AOD all ready to install in my MGA project and the engine/trams has been strapped to a pallet since I pulled it from My Mustang GT, can the AOD trans REALLY go South from just sitting around? My engine/trans have never been separated and ran very well in the Mustang. Did you pull the 5.0 and AOD together/complete from the donor or just the trans?
Between your thread and the difficulty/importance of getting the TGV cable right, I'm thinking that I made a mistake with my drive-line choice . . .
We pulled it together, but then separated when we swapped for the built motor.
Only way i can see it dying on the stand is seals drying out or fluid getting gunky in the passages. But i may not be the best advice since i killed mine.
So sorry to hear about this setback. But you got plenty of time to solve it. I was wondering about the third pedal I saw in your build thread. But at least you didn't remove it. Could have been an omen
Did Dallas' package arrive?
Did you install the converter on the transmission before installing or bolt it to the flex plate first ?
Installing on the transmission makes it easy to make sure the drive tabs are in the slots on the pump.
We reinstalled the converter before mating it but apparently missed period over his package did arrive and it fits thank you again. And I am truly grateful we didn't cut it off or modify it on the clutch pedal.

Relax. The AOD is no more likely to fail from sitting around than any other automatic and I've personally seen several that sat for years without issue. As for the TV cable, yes it has to be adjusted or you'll hurt the transmission but it's not the big a deal. It's just one of the many things that need to be adjusted on a car for it to work correctly.

Yikes! I hope nobody tries to bolt the converter to the flex plate first on any transmission. That's wrong, wrong, wrong!
In reply to APEowner:
Amen. I have never thought about trying it, because i knes no good could come of it.

I did this once when I was 21. It was my first automatic trans install and I didn't RTFM. I had to sell my American Standard Strat to buy a new TH350. :-(
When I put the AOD in my 302 powered and carbed V8 RX7, the TV cable was actually a rod, and it had to be adjusted VERY precisely or the trans wouldn't shift. At all. They (the AODs) are very picky about it, too. But I got it to shift and that thing, with the modded valve body and torque converter, held up to 5 years of 400 hp autocrossing and fast street driving.
