Volvo V50 T5. I was looking for one before I bought my Golf, but they were going for premium money.
Personally I really like my Golf - it's a 03 (MkIV) and it has the 2.0. Gas, oil, tires and brakes. I paid 2k for it with only 132k kms. It needed some work, but good shopping and doing myself had it on the road for $2300 CAD total!
