i wana put this in and old muscle car. i'm thinking lt1 powered (i have one ready) howbout a 71 camaro? maybe old mopar? etc... any ideas or good deals around? needs to be about $500

not that Im opposed to old muscle cars but why not something lighter?
But if you are insistent on old school I have a 63 Studebaker Lark 2 door that needs a new home (to make room for my 1950 Studebaker Champion) I'll even throw in the conversion motor mount for the chevy V8 ;)

Oh, and no matter what you put it in, very cool score. My first thought was a 1st gen VW rabbit.
have fun with the optispark. other than that cool score
Id vote for a vw fox wagon with an audi v8.

i have a friend who took one and made an el-quantimino out of it. cool project that was.
The trans seems to die at the 350ft-lb mark.
But then, the LT1 has a rather poor track record for reliability, so maybe you can have a contest to see which one would fail first.
And, negatory on the QSW. Not until I do mine, anyway.

1973 Dodge Dart Swinger with Cragars and a fuelie Slant Six.
Actually that'd be cool in general but with AWD and a five speed it gets even cooler.
Gremlin x or an old eagle. They already have 4wd available, so it might be an easier fit.
Saab Sonett. Light fiberglass body, cool, cheap and already has a rollbar. Bonus points for rally heritage goodness.

i am smeelling something evil here with this idea.......
Remember-almost the entire engine will be in front of the front axles. You need something with a longer nose than that saab. Unless you want an inline motor poking out the grill of course!

thats why i was thinking old muscle car. but here is what im thinking, old rusty bmw cs add audi 3.6v8 w/quattro awd?? theres lots of room in front of the strut mounts.
but it seems like an LS1 w/t56 would be more at home damnit.
But not for challenge money, noone can do an LSx for challenge money.

I think you'd have to pick the car by looking at wheel base and track dimensions, and as someone already mentioned the fact that the engine is in front of the front axle.

ehh, wheel base is just a driveshaft, track is important, but nothing some wheel offset wont fix. the engine placement is what im worried about, because of the quattro. but hey, if id doesnt fit, a LT1w/4L60E will, and maybe for $2009. i've still got two caprice 9C-1's. paid less than $1k each. they came from police departments in NC.
