ive had my half ton truck on craigslist. for sale or trade. so a guy called me with a 67 elcamino big block car for an even trade. it doesnt run, and is partially dissassembled. ive onle got 800 in my truck, o i figure i cant lose. my camera, cooler, and i are loading into the truck in a few minutes to go check this thing out.
my plan: get the big block running. big, long, smokey burnouts.
pull big block, sell for 1000. buy 350TBI and 700R4 to shove in.
primer.
AC.
Daily driven.
maybe some suspension and brake upgrades (tall ball joints, tubular arms, C5 Z06 vette wheels, C5 Z06 brakes, big sway bars, etc)

After watching a few seasons of My Name Is Earl, I wanted an El Camino too. It's perfectly normal.
ive been wanting one for some time now. I want to have it satin black, no chrome what-so-ever on it, on the ground, with a dirtbike in the back.... 
'67 is one of my favorite years. Pick up last month's GRM issue and watch one spank the track. Very cool!

That's your idea of a bad idea? At least it doesn't involve a couple miles of abandoned railroad track (there's one by my house, and I keep getting bad ideas about what uses it might be put to). If that's not a factory, numbers matching big block, go for it.

+1 If it is a numbers matching big block, please don't take it apart. Those Elkys had my favorite small block the 327.
+2 don't pull the BB if it's the original, or at least if you do, keep it with the car if someone wants to restore it later.

I don't know if you can do it but I see 70s El Caminos around with the little camper shell, the "old man special." Neat rigs.
I'm thinking change the 350tbi to the iroc z 350tpi and it's a go!

i agree with the TPI versus TBI, but i disagree with leaving the BBC in it no matter what but expecially if it's numbers-matching. if it is, pull it and prep it for storage. if not, pull it and sell it. Not sure if you can tell in '67 though. IIRC GM didn't start VIN-stamping blocks until '68, and I don't know if there's anything on the trim tag or the VIN to distinguish SBC from BBC.

400 miles round trip later....
my camera batteries were dead. apparently my daughter was playing with it and left it on.
the car is ROUGH. going to need rear window channels, quarters, and front fenders. and an interior. and a radiator. and an exhaust system. and a wiring harness. and a bare metal respray.
oh yeah, its a 454. lat 70's truck motor. T5 from a camaro behind it. factory big block floor shift car (has all the tell-tales like column, pedals, steering column bolts, etc.
4 wheel drum brakes. no air, no PS, no PB. its also mostly dissembled. there's a TON of parts in it like stainless, emblems, dash is in the bed, taillights, handles, etc. i have no idea what is there and what isn't. I'm not familiar enough with these cars to know without a lot of time, which the seller didn't have. he had sick grand kid that he had to get back to, as his son was at work. he also offered to let me wander his property where hes been parting out chevelles for the last 30 years and get what i can find to use (within reason)
i just don't know. its a LOT of project, and considerably more money than i was originally planning on.
what do you all think? remember, I'm a social worker, my wife is a teacher, and we have a 3 year old and another one is on the plan for the next year or so.

It'll bring at least $1500 on eBay just because it's an original '67 big-block elco. maybe it's not a project for you, maybe it's just a flip.

I'd clean it up and sell it for an 80's Elco instead.
