I have the newer brushless one.  It has three settings for impact, I’ve never had it off the lowest setting.  Crank nose bolts and axle nuts come off in like three pops.  I’m 100% sure it is more powerful than my old air impact.

I See some battery powered ratchets but they are lower ft lbs rated.

IMHO battery-powered ratchets are actually more useful for misc work on the car than the impacts.  Most engine stuff the impacts are too big, heavy, and unwieldy, whereas the battery ratchets work like a normal ratchet -- the extra size is mostly in the form of being fatter, which is is usually a dimension that's not significant.

Thanks, I think I'll order the ratchet. If it can not break bolts loose it can at  least take them off faster.

I do have a HF 1/2 plug in impact that can do wheels etc. Works well but is heavy and hard  on my wrist.

I have a friend who works for TTI - the company which makes rigid, ryobi and milwaukee, among others. His recommendation was to get Rigid because of the lifetime warranty including on batteries! I have a bunch of 18v li-ion stuff that I got on black Friday last year and it's awesome. The 1/2" impact wrench is strong enough to bust axle nuts loose.

Dude!  Thanks so much.  Home Depot has a sale going and if you buy a battery/charger starter pack, the tool is free.   I got the 1/2" Octane 18V Impact (485 ft-lbs), 6Ah battery, 3Ah battery, charger, and bag for $191 shipped after taxes.

Nice score! Their black friday deal was pretty awesome - I got two batteries, charger, radio, angle grinder, drill, impact wrench, impact screw driver, flashlight and reciprocating saw for like $450. Be sure to register on their website to get the liftime warranty.

Another vote for Milwaukee M18 impacts, these things are fantastic.  I bought the 3/8” M18 brushless impact first, as a kit with two 5.0 batteries and charger.  Then I went out and got their “mid torque” model as a bare tool.  So far, working on compact and mid sized cars in New England, there literally hasn’t been a single thing I can’t break loose.

The 3/8” does 95% of the work including wheel swapping at autocross, most suspension and brake work, etc.  It’s much lighter and easier to handle.  Setting 2 of 3 on the 3/8” is ideal for installing lug nuts… gets me within ~1/8-1/4 turn of 95 ft-lbs every time.  The mid torque is great to have nearby, though… perfect for badly over-torqued lug nuts, axle nuts, stubborn suspension bolts, etc.

Overall 10/10... if they were stolen I would absolutely buy them again.

The nice thing about the ratchet is that you can use it as a ratchet and break the torque by hand, then spin it off with the motor.  Not great for wheels, but really useful for stuff with mechanical locknuts like exhaust, etc.

That one was 1/2 inch. In any case, I returned it and got a Kobalt branded one for like $20 more that could take the lug nuts off no problem. Cut my pad replacement time considerably, glad I got it.

I like Milwaukee tools too and have a bunch of their stuff, but my cordless impact is the really small 1/2" Hilti and it is frequently attached to my right hand.  I think the current model is 6AT-22.  It's light enough to use around the garage all day and has mostly replaced my ratchet,  It had enough torque to loosen the nuts on my E350 after three years of neglect, which surprised the heck out of me.

I ordered this one, and put i.t to good use yesterday.

ACDelco Power Cordless Ratchet Wrench 3/8" 12V Max. Torque 45 ft-Lbs

Changed dampers, bump stops and motor mount on my 99 Cherokee.

Had enough torque to break all the shock bolts and the rear bumpstops. The cross bolt for the motor mount was tough even by hand, but I used it to put it back in.

I think it saved me a good amount of time, could teach far with an extension but didn't need a lot of room for the ratchet.

Have a plug in HF 1/2" for lug nuts, but was able to do everything without removing tires.

I've used it a few times and am happy with it so far.  The battery is still full after doing a couple of tire changes.   I'd recommend this.
