My Mom had a 2-door Caprice back in the day.We had problems keeping it running, but it was a nice car.

I'd choose a Caprice over a Crown Vic anyday. It would be an older model ( late 70's early 80's) with either a LT1 or go for broke and stuff a 6.0 in it.

If that isn't enough luxury a town car fits the bill too.

Those could be had with a 5.0, couldn't they?

"go find a Grand Marquis"

Absolutely ! A great ride for the money and good used ones always have low mileage and regular maintenance.

Bullet proof drive line, terrific leather interior, all of the extras.

That all they came with iirc, the 4.6 was after the body update. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

In reply to ebonyandivory:

I looked it up, '90 model year got the 5.0 only. Which makes me think, I bet a '90 Town Car cross member would make swapping a Windsor into any later Panther easy.

i believe they're all integral to the frame, and don't unbolt like a mustang k member. however, the panther chassis pretty much unchanged until 2002 with the exception of bolt on parts, like the b body frame ran 77-96 through 2 bodies.

Why a 305 Impala? 50% of the benefit of an Impala is the 350 V8.

Whichever route you go, these should be considered your first purchase (if the care doesn't already have them)

Speak from "Experience" I see. Or ignorance maybe. I'm guessing you've not driven a fresh 9C1 or Interceptor. They most certainly do not drive like boats.

But hey, you go on giving great, misinformed opinions.

The big problem with the Crown Vic/Caprice debate: The Vics seem to still be around and the Caprices seem to have faded away.

Mostly because the Caprice hasn't been built in 20 years and the CV didn't stop production until last year.

I particularly mean the 80s box Vics. There's just so many more of them, at least in my neck of the woods.

I think it has to do with location. I haven't seen a box 'Vic in a long time. I do see some (ratted out) box Caprices around.

Same here. I don't remember seeing box Vics that much, even when they were a fee years old.

The reason for us (Indiana) is GM had the state bid from ~88-96. So all the police cars, trucks, blazers etc for all state offices etc were GM.
