Wow, this really sucks. Good reminder to be careful out there. The same applies when buying, BTW. The "seller" expects you to show up with cash, especially if the car is in the "GRM price range". I've had a CPL for a few years and almost never carry. Buying or selling off from Craigslist/classifieds/front yard is the one situation where I always carry.
Really sorry to hear this.
And now you understand why I take a lot of car parts and either give them away to locals in the "scene" or just throw them away. I refuse to list anything on, or deal with CL folks.

More on bad-guy #1 who drove in the Baja 1000 in 2009 and seems to come from a wealthy family who owns an aviation company.
This report says there were two test drives (two separate days) and that bad-guy owns nearly the exact same truck.

I had been harboring my own personal theory that this abduction had little to do with the truck but after reading that above, it seems it has only to do with obtaining a truck.

The media reports seem to be leading down a path that would lead you to believe that the suspect being held in custody had the means to buy a truck, so why would he steal one?
To the poster one above, I don't think they know the name of the 2nd suspect. I don't think the individual that has been charged is talking.

Just from quickly reading the articles there seems to be more going on than just wanting to steal a truck. It could turn that it was just a random act but I won't be surprised if it isn't

Maybe his business is really selling white males into slavery and the truck was a clever ruse .

Whenver I sell a car on CL, for concerns over safety, I don't get in the car when the person is going for a test drive.
Maybe they were looking for Tim(for whatever reason) and all they knew was he had a Dodge pickup for sale, thus prompting them to test drive them all until they found him?
With a heavy heart... Tim's burned body has been found. The investigation continues.
