It seems very implausible but its the only explanation that I can come up with. I have a '87 944 na and I cannot seem to get the dust cap back on the hub. I've frozen it to get it small, I've used 3 lb hammer, I've even sanded down the cap and hub a bit. The dust cap fits just fine in the other hub but will not go into the passenger side. It would explain the wheel wobble I get from that wheel. On the other hand, hitting the brake does not affect the wobble at all which should if the hub is bent, I think. Could it just be that the hub center has become oval but the hub itself isn't bent? Any ideas?

Dial indicator on the face of the hub (not the OD) would rule out any bending. I am not certain of the specs, but I wouldnt want to see much more than 0.003" of runout on the hub face.

Dial indicator on the dust cap bore would rule out any bending of the lip.

Time for a dial indicator!

Sorry to be a dunce but I'm not exactly familiar with a dial indicator as far as hubs go. So I'm assuming I'd set it up so that its pressing against the hub face and then spin the hub?
