That's surprisingly short-sighted of Bernie. He didn't get to be one of the richest men in the world by being an idiot.

But surely he knows that it is not solely UBS and Rolex and their customers that fund F1. Red Bull, Mercedes, etc. all have to see marketing value or the Euros get shut off. It takes masses of folks to buy the tickets at the racetrack, not just a few rich dudes. Since the gate receipts are all the track owners get (and they pay F1 for the privilege of having the race) there won't be any tracks available to race. Particularly if the country-sponsored ones no longer see the "prestige" of hosting a race.

I wouldn't put a lot faith that an article like that really reflects what is going on. Bernie has a habit of talking out his ass in public for his own entertainment, then being a Machiavellian genius in private.

Right On Basil!

But honestly many if not most corporations today consider "long term planning" is for what the next quarterly report will say & whether their stock will go up every quarter. Bernie is 84. He's probably not too interested in planning for when today's teens can afford a Rolex.

Bernie does love making headlines! And for a good reason. If you're in the entertainment business, such as he is, and you're not making headlines during your off season, your business can be forgotten. If your business is forgotten, who will plan to attend your events when they are in season? "The only bad press is no press."
