You guys have all missed the point, once shortcuts are introduced, it's only a matter of time before F1 goes FIGURE 8 BABY, now THAT I would watch

Making the races more interesting involves one thing, and one thing only: throwing out the rulebook.
Face it, having a six-wheeled car on grid was freaking awesome. Now the rules limit it to 4. Having V10s and V12s was awesome, now they're all V8s, practically identical. Too constrictive.

Isn't that in the same wacky category as NASCAR using the short course at The Glen (and altering Sears Point)because of the fans' attention span? Was that for the fans or for the oval guys that have a limited tolerance for the number of right hand turns they have to make?
Yes.

This is the truth. However, there should be one limitation to the no-limit racing: Cars must only run on mayonnaise. Bernie will like it because it has never been done before!
All drivers should be forced to pull over if they see a car behind them... This way we can get rid of that pesky racing.
I heard that once Bearnie gets his hands on Saab, he's going to use the 9000 as the new safety car. To further reduce engine costs, starting in 2011, all F1 engines must be two-strokes.
I say just forget the racing all together and just start showing "Driven" over and over again...............
Marty! Good to the last drop.... wrote: I say just forget the racing all together and just start showing "Driven" over and over again...............
Or they could just make the race cars so that all you have to do to pass is downshift and floor it!
It's weird, the only racing I watch is the racing I do...Auto X, drags and when I ran with the COM guys, the local guys hitting NHIS etc. If I wanted to watch some crazy sanctioning body place X number of identically prepared cars into some pasteurized setting I'd...well that's just it, I wouldn't.
The things GRM features appeal to me much more. I LOVE the idea of F1...as what I saw it as when I was a kid (I'm 35 now)..an unlimited throwdown..fast as fast could be, whether it was speed that was bred or bought. Now it's just one more watered down caricature...Like NASCAR. In theory NASCAR is fantastic...buncha cars off the showroom floor out trading paint on a beach...but now when one team has a silhouette that is faster than another team, that faster car gets penalized so it will be as slow as the other guys...sort of like Public school ;) (Don't tell my wife I said that...she teaches Second Grade at a public school in MA heh heh...)

You don't need to go back that far for great racing - case in point, the '79 French GP: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j3tXJm9tYGM Big wings and tires, and still fun as hell to watch.
Okay, okay, 1960-1970's. As part of my simplification program, make 'em run on 8" wheels (tires are free), no downforce, engines are free (but no turbines), and don't limit power. Should see some very entertaining car attitude. The old races were exciting, and it can be that way again.
Regarding Bernie, even though I don't know him, I lost what tiny respect I had for him when he said, "I like my women in white, like all major appliances." Sounds like he thinks he's still in the 50's or 60's... idiot.

I hope Bernie goes through with this just so people who claim that the current state of F1 is somehow less ridiculous than the current state of NASCAR will finally have to eat crow.
The mad troll has no power to implement rule changes; only the FIA (with the accordance of the participating teams) can implement any kind of change.
Ecclestone and his bosses are desperate to re-coup their losses during this volatile economic downturn. That, and he is suffering from the toxic fumes of Depends-overload.

And when all the current drivers have been killed, the new ones will probably command much lower salaries. So it's a win-win!
