Friend has an 07 civic hybrid, owes roughly 10 trade in is roughly 5 needs something easily affordable, preferably used, can roll the extra 5 k left off his civic onto the newer car. Moron cant drive a stick, needs something that will last forever or at least until they can at least finish paying off a vehicle. something with minimum maintenance requirements as he cannot do just about anything of that sort on his own either and he travels probably 25 miles one way to work.
His car is getting the dreaded IMA light and seems as though his battery pack is toast.
How can he be so upside down on a 7 year old car? Don't answer, I already know but boy is that stupid. Roll another 5K onto the next one and repeat the process.

yeah he needs to roll the 5 into the next one we are trying to figure out something that with minmal maint will last him until they pay the damn thing off and arent upside down anymore
I think Hyundai or Kia is the answer here. Cheap to buy, long warranty to get them out from under the loan.

They cant swing 2-3 grand to get the honda fixed, He needs to get something to get him out from underwater on his loan.
Cheapest price I found just for parts to fix it was over $2900 with the core charge, and that would be us replacing it ourselves which I am not to comfortable with. Never done anything like that before.

Last dealer I worked for, I found them a nice equinox sweet little suv, babied its life all maint records everything perfect, they chose to buy a volvo that had the E36 M3 beaten out of it by the previous owners.
Versa Note? Cheap and a decent warranty. Otherwise I suggest base model Kia Rio or Hyundai, cheap and when new 10/100 warranty

Batteries and other hybrid parts fall under the emissions warranty.
Depending on the state, that could be as long as 150k.

An 07 with 102k on it. We're in NC

Yeah, at 102k id try real hard to get honda to pay for the repair or at least split the cost.
Rolling 5k onto a loan on a fast-depreciating korean car is just going to put them in a bigger hole in the long run, regardless of how good a car it actually is.
That boy needs a bus pass.
Boy needs a credit card to buy the parts and get his finances in order before committing to another car loan.
That means he needs to put money away and schedule routine maintenance if he's not doing it himself.

If that's the same friend (I assume so) then my advice would be to stay out of their vehicular disasters. Heck, I can be somewhat dense when it comes to vehicles but at least I try to listen to people. Sometimes.
If he's rolling over a $5k loan into another $5k car that he doesn't even seem to have a downpayment for, he'll be buying on the shady side of town. With that interest rate he'd be better off trying to get the $3k for the repair from somewhere, even a credit card if the credit is good enough.
The Civic Hybrid may be different but I thought the Honda Hybrids still worked with a battery failure? Might be a better idea to drive around like this if the dealer isn't going to help out until he's saved up enough money to fix the thing.
