I am enthused about the potential of electric race cars but, damn, that is unpleasant to listen to. I had to turn the sound off.
I wonder if he could have done that before it was completely paved?
I guess not needing oxygen to operate helped out though.

sounds like your average everyday electric go-cart.
that, or they just mic'd the supercharger.
Why does it sound like it has tons of gear lash or drivetrain slack?

Yeah... Is it helicopter video with in-car mic? Straight-cut gears? I don't think that's all electric motor noise, or at least I'd be surprised if that were the case.
Yep very cool...........but unpleasant to listen to.

This. If I had to listen to that crap while driving it to the top, I might have put it off the side of the mountain just for spite.
Cool to watch though.

The electric cars in sci-fi shows always sounded so much better.

Because there's no engine sound to cover it up...if you could magically silence the engine of a similar ICE-powered car, it would sound pretty much the same.
Also the sound has been foley'd into the video, and not very well...I'm guessing because they didn't want the noise of the siren that EVs are required to run.

That seems like the central issue. We're not necessarily hearing an unpleasant sounding car, per se. We're hearing a sound engineer screwing up.
The siren thing is so interesting to me for some reason. Like, “oh yeah, you can’t hear it coming until it’s just about to pass you!”
when did they pave the whole trip up? That will skew times.

Sweet video. I was just thinking the other day (as I drove my Chevy Volt through some curves) how an electric hillclimb car would be awesome. It doesn't suffer from the change in pressure and the instant torque would be perfect for pulling from corners. I'm glad I wasn't totally off base.
I actually like the motor sounds, but then again, I daily drive an electric. No gear changes at all and the motor range was dialed in perfectly. It was only a few times where it maxed out on a long straight. It's the future and I'm stoked about it.
