Hey gang, I am looking for an amp to install in my Supra. I want to leave the original stereo in it's place, it's lasted almost 35 years and Id like it to stay there for aesthetic reasons. I would like to install a Bluetooth amplifier somewhere unseen and use that as my audio player.
Requirements:
Must pair automatically when I turn in the car.
4 channel output with atleast 200 watts.
Cheap.
What's the go to solution?
If that deck has CD-changer controls, you can get a bluetooth dongle that will plug into the CD changer port on the stock headunit. Or you can get a bluetooth cassette adapter for the ultimate 80's experience. :)
I would install an amp and a bluetooth receiver. More future-proof and you'll be able to buy a better amp.
In reply to Tyler H (Forum Supporter) :
Sadly the stock deck only works intermittently or that would be perfect.
I have a BOSS brand one for a UTV in my white neon and it works flawlessly.
In reply to Keith Tanner :
That would be perfect, do you know of any receivers that will pair automatically when they receive power?
The little NVX I use in a couple of applications does. I suspect all of them do. I would call Clearwater and ask them these questions, as they're experts in this stuff and it's a field that changes on about a 2 week basis.
You want something like this and then any amp you want:

Your phone/MP3 becomes the music source and then connect in what ever amp you want. Much cheaper than a Bluetooth amp. Runs about $50
Controler for the one i use. Automatically pairs when car turns on .
Any bluetooth dongle will plug into an amp's RCA input directly and then use your phone to control volume and tunage.
I'm in the same boat as you are, where I want to keep my original dash intact and kinda like the retro feel of the old radio, and in the process of looking around I arrived at the same thing most people mention here: Get a separate Bluetooth receiver, and plug it into whatever amp you like
My issue is that I have not seen many bluetooth amps that fit my specific needs (Class D, 4 channel bridgable, built in crossover, subwoofer level control, etc.) but I can think of several standard amps that do, and they all compete against one another price. Manufacturers seem to have maybe one or two BT amps in their entire lineup at best, so it either fits your needs or not. They also seem expensive for what they are, like you are paying extra for the convenience of Bluetooth.
Also a standard amp will plug into almost anything with RCA cables, so it will be around for a long time to come. And Bluetooth receivers can be had in all kinds of price levels (from cheap imported dongles on Amazon to compact head units with player controls) and they all have an RCA connection path and also compete on price. So it's probably cheaper to keep them separate as well as giving you more flexibility.
I recommend this blue tooth receiver from JL audio... then use whichever amp you want.
Have it in my mini, has worked well for two years. Pairs automatically.
