I thought I would share with GRM a swap I am almost done with. This is my third m42 swap into an older BMW, 2 2002s and 1 2000.
Here is a link to the entire build thread
http://www.bmw2002faq.com/component/option,com_forum/Itemid,57/page,viewtopic/t,345849/
and some recent pictures I just wanted to share. Very happy/proud of this swap.
As a past owner of about 5 2002s (and who still kicks m'self for not hanging on to one), I gotta say..that right there is porn. Nice job!

Very neat work, looks excellent! And that swap makes so much sense.

I'm only up to 3 - still annoyed I don't have one now. I was thinking m20 swap, but that looks really clean and like it belongs

2000 sedan?... or 2000 coupe?

x2. I actually had a Two (Tii head, twin Webers) when the E30 318is came out. Thought it would be a great swap, even back then. But donor cars were a lil' expensive when they were new..
Always wanted a 2000 Coupe.
Make mine white with a lot of sacrilegious modifications.

Including an M42! (insert "thumbs up" icon here)
When I was living in MS (jeez, just realized that was more than 20yrs ago! ), a friend of mine's neighbor had a 2000CS sitting in his yard. Guy was trying to sell it, but it had no floorboards. I passed. Mistake..shoulda used as an excuse to learn to weld.
Seriously cool one running in CM's Small Bore Championship, saw it at the Mitty. Here's a bad pic (drinking, and telling old war stories to my kid & her friends was more important than photography for me at Mitty `10 ) of it:

If that's the one, it should be quite the sleeper, with the steelies & hubcaps!

The red one is the one I swapped....it has an automatic even.

.
Eh, so what? I'm an ex-Bimmer ("beemers" are bikes!) guy, and I know how hard the damn things are to find in the first place.
How does the car drive after the transplant? Even the factory knew they needed more power in the coupe, that's why they eventually dropped the six in it.
If I won the lottery, I'd go find an old beat up 1500, have it welded back together, and send you the tub for another M42 transplant. I figure the nice ones should stay museum pieces, but the ratty ones are fair game. Better than seeing it continue to rot in a field for another 40yrs, right?
Yeah, I think one of those with a lot of the stuff we've discovered "works" on the Two (and an M42) would seriously rock. Spray mine Inka, tho.
Aside..I recall working on my last Two (it was a squaretail 76) once, and even though I knew it had been resprayed, I almost cried when a tool slipped..and the scar went straight through the topcoat into the original Mintgrun underneath. I think I'm beginning to understand why prices are so high for original cars now..I never realized how many of `em were treated so badly.

I think this answers the question on the other thread about what car would you own if you could only own one. Nice job. I've had this transplant in the back of my mind for years.

Weeeell now! Imagine my surprise when you posted that picture. I had to do a double-take to be sure it wasn't the one I recently sold.
I ran out of time/money and couldn't stand to see her sit, so I had to let her go.

Sorry, didn't know you had a significant interest in it. I went into it for a sort of spring cleaning earlier in the year and found new rust bubbles from not being stored properly. I sorta flipped-out and called Matt M. and told him to come get it for whatever he would offer if he would have it out by the next day. As far as I know, it's still at his shop. The car deserved better treatment than what it was getting from me.

Ah, its in good hands then. Probably for the best since I'm selling my current vintage ride to fund the Miata From Hell.....you really do need a vintage Volvo to replace it
