There's a cheap 2007 Kia Rio available locally. Ad says it's not running due to a bad clutch. Can the transmission be pulled on one of these without the engine? The other possibility I'd hope for is that the slave is just shot, although the seller was given a high estimate for clutch replacement and decided to sell instead.
Shop quotes a clutch, but replaces slave cylinder only?Ill gotten gains.
Yes but the cradle has to be dropped IIRC. You'll need a 4x4 and a strap to hold the engine. 6 bolts drop the subframe. It doesn't even need to be dropped that low if you're on a garage floor.
Does a replacement clutch cost more than a 2007 Rio?

I mean, a manual Rio has no tach, roll up windows, no cruise and steel wheels without hubcaps so maybe? BUT..... it should be stupid light. and that 110hp Alpha is durable so Rally car?
This one is the hatch version and appears to have OEM aluminum wheels. An Autozone clutch is $100. I could use it as a winter beater/rallycross/last minute Challenge entry.

An SX? If you don’t can I have it?
If I pass you can certainly take a crack at it. When I texted seller inquiring if the clutch pedal felt normal he responded with "No won't engage at all feels loose like it's completely loose". Sounds like it could be the slave, or the arm/release bearing. Apparently not a car guy. I can't see the car until Saturday.
Ours was an auto, but I *think* the slave is external on those (at least it was on the older alpha cars). that would be a fast fix. and cheap
A new slave cylinder is $33 at Autozone. It would be nice if it's only that.

Or even the master or line. All of which are easy.

OK, I went to see the car this morning. The slave can seen to try and push the fork but the fork doesn't move. I found a length of rebar and tried to pry the fork to see if it would move. Some movement accompanied by significant squealing from the release bearing. The car has 137K on it, heat works, AC less so. The rear bumper cover has been mildly tweeked and there's rust starting to show on hatch edge and the rear wheel well lips. I'm passing on it, just cuz I don't feel like pulling the trans, although I'm not 100% sure there's anything more than a blown slave cylinder, but I am suspicious of the fork/release bearing. I did start it with the trans in gear and it lurched forward, so the clutch is engaged. The car has been sitting since May and the young man has been offered $300 and turned it down. I think he'd take $5-600. Your turn if you wish.
Hatch rust? I'll pass. Rear arches I expect, hatch probably been tagged and not prepped right. The wife's Accent TOB made noise on damp days for close to 100k miles so it may just need use.
