The Saratoga Auto Museum is hosting Bond. Events normally run for 6 months, but because of the stipend required to Ian Fleming it will run for a year.

I took my father to it back in March for his birthday. It was a great exhibit, and that's a really neat museum in general. Despite only living 2 and a half hours east, I'd never heard of it before.
I read that as Sarasota and thought it might be worth the 8-hour drive.
Then I wondered why a NY state guy was posting about something in FL.
Now I'm sad.

Just a touch over 9 hours for me if I cut through Canuck-land. I really do need to see this, I'm a pretty major Bond fan.
When I Volunteered there is a docent answering questions etc, I loved doing a panoramic photo in the front room of say a mom and a child; they stand on my left, I start the shot and then they run behind me and go stand on my right and the photo comes out big banner with them on each side.
Mom: "OMG, he's getting a poster for Christmas!"

Second. They based the stunt on the Astro-Spiral Javelin.
It's a fascinating read.
I think my favorite car scenes were from On Her Majesty's Secret Service. Honestly my favorite Bond film.

They have the Mercury Cougar XR7 428 convertible with the skis and fog lamps on display

It's 15 hours for me, most of it through the worst traffic east of the Mississippi.

I've done that trip a ton, it's not usually terrible. As long as it isn't a holiday weekend it's ok.
Added bonus upstate NY is absolutely beautiful this time of year...
Dan everything was fine until I saw the auction page and I know I can't buy any of those cars it I remember that a Rolls went for a very reasonable price last year. Now I want to go out there for that. I think it's the same weekend as the balloon festival in Lake George though.

That was a good read!!
Excellent timing. I'm planning a trip from Western Pennsylvania to Maine this fall. This sounds like an excellent place to visit.

That's because you're trying to run 95. If you can convince yourself to go a bit out of your way and run up 81 instead (you can then get off on 84 at Scranton or continue on north to Binghamton and use 88) it ain't half bad. 81 can be herky jerky by spells in Virginia (dive off onto 11 for peace and tranquility) but thins out substantially after the 76 and 78 traffic peals off it around Harrisburg PA. Oh, and as long as you don't use the NY Thruway for the final piece, my way is 100% free.

I81 is a much better drive. For Saratoga I'd keep going north of 84. It's a really beautiful area especially this time of year.
In reply to NY Nick :
It's not the upstate NY parts, it's the I-95 corridor through SC, NC, DC, Philly, and NYC. I've done that once and that was one time too many.
I could go up I-77 to I-81 and skip most of the traffic but that's still 30 hours of driving round trip. I took that route to Maine a couple of years ago and enjoyed the drive.

We know! 95 corridor sucks. If the traffic doesn't get to you the tolls will. Not sure what they're up to now but last time I did it I was shocked!
