I posted a while back about engine options for my Galaxie vert. I am now thinking about an efi 300 6 with boost. Reasons I like this... CHEAP, I can get a full truck for 400 pretty regularly. It bolts in, the Galaxie came with a 240 stock but mine is a 352. Comes with an OD trans. Takes boost easily and with the easy availability of e85 in my area that is my fuel of choice. Should be easy to get the efi running in my car. NEGATIVES... no cross flow head. Stock pistons seem to be a bit of an issue, maybe. Heavy, I don't really care about this. Decent support but only by DYIers.

If you get the 300, don't look here.

It will cost you a lot of money

Yeah I have been there. Luckily I want efi which means that I can only get headers and cams. Now what I really need is a holset hx35 and a water to air intercooler setup

I've had a 300 in a truck, and while it's a nice truck motor I'm not sure why you would choose it over the literally any v8 that would fit in the Galaxie. Would a boosted 300 be faster, smoother, or in any way better than, say, a 351C or 390 or 429 or, since you're going for fuel injection, a simple 5.0 HO?

FYI - 351W's with EFI (and twin throttle bodies) are very common. Look under the hoods of F150's, F250's, vans, and UHaul trucks. That'd be a better choice, IMO, and I like the 300-6.

I am basically wanting to do this because I can. I know there are better options from a power stand point but that is sooo boring. I think I can do this for about the same as a 350 HP Windsor and have something unique that can be proud of. If it sucks, I haven't hacked up the car and can then go Windsor...

Why not just work with the 352 if you're after something different? Big ole FE engine should be able to take a ton of boost if you put a respectable bottom end in it and find yourself a carb hat.

No easily attached overdrive or efi.

Based on your criteria......

I'd run a twinscrew supercharger and get it to flow as best you can....... get as much 1500 rpm torque as you possibly can.....

The only part I don't like is relying on E85.

Once upon a time it was a very popular mod to cut and weld a couple of Boss 302 heads into a 6-cylinder head for the 300. The 300 was built at the Cleveland plant and they shared the same bore spacing as the 351 Cleveland and Boss engines.

If my old brain is thinking correctly Ford of Australia produced a cross-flow head for the 300. I know they built one for the 200 ans 240 and I seem to recall a couple of articles in one of the magazines back in the day about a guy drag racing a Maverick with a 300 that featured an Aussie cross-flow head.

You might try doing some web searches for "Aussiespeed" and other Ford of Australia sites to see if one can't be obtained and shipped here to the states.

skip the "weirdness" and just do what you know you want to.. a 6.0 out of a newer Silverado..

I have thought about an lm7 but just can't bring myself to do it. Partly, I have always wanted to do a Turbo car and this car makes the most sense to screw with in my current fleet

This E36 M3 is everywhere here. If it all of the sudden isn't, I will reevaluate.

In reply to vern2point3:

I have spent some time researching and here is no Aussie head. The Cleveland head is usable, sort of. The spacing is slightly off or something and it makes things a little screwy.

No x flow head sucks but it is a car from the 60s, it is period correct.

Why not the 200/240 then, which does have a crossflow head available? (And factory EFI, and responds well to boost, and is lighter)

who says you can't put a turbo (or two) on a 6.0?

In reply to Javelin:

That is a possibility but I would only use the 250, its a big car (the 240 is a destroked 300), and I think that once I get the crossflow it would cost way more than the 300. However, I would love to be proved wrong.

Do we have any Aussies willing to help a guy out?

I like the idea of the turbo six in the car, especially since it was originally available with the big six. And the small block six 200/250 would be quite taxed for such a large car.

I am more drawn to a six banger at car shows simply because there aren't as many left.

Someone else who is thinking the same thing. I like that it was factory engine, sort of, and that not many use it. I think is as good as a stock 302 and takes about as many dollars to hot rod. More work but it really shouldn't be too bad.

I have some contacts that do Aussie import/export, usually on GTO's, but the crossflow 250 heads are very common over there. It shouldn't be that hard to get one over here. With the turbo + EFI you should be able to build a ~300HP/400TQ one fairly easily. I would think the lighter weight and better breathing would be way worth it over the 300.

Honeslty, if you can get me the hookup on a x flow head and bolt on efi, I am sold. That would mean I have to Fab mounts but I should save money elsewhere. Javelin, can you shoot me a pm for further discussion?

In typical ford fashion, the best version was the last one. The efi was speed density until 96 when they went to a maf setup, then the next year changed body styles and introduced the 4.2 v6. The v6 would be another option as well, they make decent power stock, accept 5.0 valve train parts and pistons so changing compression from the stock 8.5:1 is easy enough. they mount to sbf motor mounts and have a sbf bell housing bolt pattern as well, so there are plenty of trans options.
