I was just talking with someone who lamented selling his.  Nice score!

Well were going to wrap this one up soon.

I just crossed the 280k kms (174 k miles) threshold last week and the Rabbit seemed to be feeling it's age. I replaced the LF axle a while ago and thanks to user error, it came loose on me twice and stranded me. The LF Coil spring broke last week and I'm getting tired of working on it.  It's done me well - averaged 28.5 mpg (USG), basic maintenance and all. Here it is cleaned up for some pics

So this:

I have been thinking for a while about making a significant move. Away from a clutch and stick and off to something very different:

I pick it up Wednesday. Got it for under $20K CAD and just a bit over 50 k kms (31 k miles).

Every one of my Volkswagen stories has ended the same way

What looks to be a lease turn in Chevy Volt is probably a really good value!

Actually I disagree with you, but I'm one of the few people on this board that doesn't bash VW's.

My take on it is that if you stay away from the VW Turbo gassers, you can do quite well. My previous Golf (03 - 2.0), gave me 6 years of pretty limited trouble driving, and the things that did happen were easily DIY-able. The Rabbit was bought with pretty high kms to start with and cheap (sub $2K). It has served me well for a 1 1/2 years. I'm soon going to turn 54 and working on my DD's is getting old. I was looking to upgrade and it just happens that the EV characteristics of the Volt match my commute really well. I figure that the car will be paid off in fuel savings alone in about 5  years.

Yup - leased at the dealer I bought it from and they got it back from the leasing company. There seems to be quite a few off-lease 2nd Gen Volts showing up right now, in the Toronto and Montreal markets. I've been watching this one for a while and they had dropped the price twice. It was also coming up on 60 days on the lot, so I used that to my advantage.

I ended up getting a 3-year old Volt for less than 1/2 its original MSRP.
