FYP.
Hmm I'd rather have an LS in a country squire wagon. At least that would be funny. Otherwise I'm mystified by the fast wagons thing.

I was trying not to be greedy.

Because some people do things that involve carrying more than a few bags of groceries.
Adrian_Thompson wrote: I get the 'can't get it here ADM YO' thing, but seriously, what does this give you that Duece's CTSV wagon doesn't? Except the fact the V looks way better than the Holden? Also, for a DD V8 over 400lb/ft give me an auto every day and twice during rush hour.
The biggest thing this would hopefully do is cost $20k less. The V wagon is expensive. Even though I love it, I would gladly shed some of the Cadillac luxury for a cheaper price. But other than that, yea, giant powerful wagons are the E36 M3.

Alfa WTF man! Wagons rock, in many cases they look better than the sedan version of any car AND can have better aero too.
I missed that it was a Holden. Yeah, now I get it and like it a lot.
At a glance I thought it was a pimped Mazda 5

I realize that, but there are so many other better tools out there, as I see it.
We bash to death SUV's and CUV's- which are wagons that are high up.
It's a station wagon. Ugh.
Wagons are the shiz. sleepers, look boring, carry a crap-ton and are more aerodynamic and efficient than an SUV.

They're almost there already : the S has optional rear facing jump seats in the hatch.

I have yet to see a better tool than a wagon for daily driving and hauling. Yes a truck will haul more but at a driving dynamics and efficiency penalty. Yes an SUV might haul more but again - you pay a price. A wagon typically gets the same gas mileage as a comparable sedan and drives the same. To me the sedan is the pointless body style.

When you do this, please make sure to stop off in Japan to pick up some of these too. I like the earlier version more.

This. X1000.
The only thing better than hauling stuff than a wagon is a minivan and they don't make those using performance-oriented rwd/awd underpinnings.

Pretty much. I see variations of the Audi 5 every day and lust after one, but my past experience with Audi makes me leary.
Of course, chili_head drives a MINI, so he's used to punishment.
I've been involved with MINIs since 2003, so I know them well

Yup. Which is why I own a wagon and a minivan (although the minivan will eventually be replaced by a full-sized van)
The aspect that really annoys me is that Holden and Ford in Australia have both announced that the big RWD platforms (Commodore and Falcon) will be killed off very soon, citing lack of demand, and the supposedly high price of manufacture of a RWD platform. OK, that may well be the case (as an aside, I fail to understand why a RWD platform inherently costs more than a FWD - don't they just need a slightly beefier rear sub-frame and a drive shaft?). So why not market them properly elsewhere in the world? Both platforms could be a great competitor to the RWD European models in North America. Car enthusiasts, who appreciate the difference between this and the horrible-ness that is a car like the last Impala or the Taurus, will purchase them. Not to mention that the Camaro is built on the very same platform as the wagon above - so when it comes time to replacing the Camaro, they'll have to invest in new chassis development costs anyway. Instead, we're stuck with horrible FWD platforms, that just can't compete with European models. I just don't get it.
In reply to edwardh80:
There are a number of reasons, but a coupel of the big ones:
FWD cars are inherently easier/cheaper to put together on an assembly line because the drivetrain and front suspension is installed quickly as a complete unit.
Simple quantities of scale and the need to sell X number of cars to make the platform viable. A few years of X-1 number of cars sold makes continuing the platform difficult.
I want a sports wagon for my next set of wheels,I have 2 SUV's and really need that extra space for bringing crap home/taking crap from home but like mentioned the penalty of driving an SUV is a little too much. I need awd here though,I can't afford/justify new and used audi's and bmw's scare me so not sure what other choices I'll have when ready.
Station wagons are great for those of us with (normal size or bigger) dogs. I'm not going to stick my dogs in the trunk.
