NMA Looking for some input for a friend of mine. He has a 86.5 (IIRC!) 951, with an engine that blew its HG due to boost spike. It's been sitting for ~6 years now. It has lots of Lindsey racing goodies, 4" ceramic coated exhaust, their larger wastegate, their chip, injectors maybe?, AEM Wideband, downpipe etc. It has been spun into a guardrail and the front end straightened back out. It wasn't too bad, but the bumper cover etc has some wear. And lastly he never transferred the title to his name, so really no title....
Its in decent shape, would make a good track car, its in a storage unit in Seattle.
Thoughts to what he could get for it? He needs cash and isn't going to be fixing it himself...
Tell him to spend a weekend pulling the head and replacing the headgasket, belts and rollers and go drive the berkeleying car.
Then sell it for $8-10k
If he's just too damned lazy to fix it, then expect about half that amount at best.
Also modded cars don't bring big money so returning it to stock is better, if possible.
The title is a big issue. Can he get a title into his name? Without it you're severely limiting your market and value. I mean, with a poorly repaired front end and no title and a blown HG, he would be lucky to get $1500.
He could probably get the title, but they wanted him to pay a bunch of tax last time, that's why he didn't do it.. They didn't belive the price he bought it for....
But yes he could get it, or sign the paper work for lost title for the buyer.
He doesn't have anywhere or any money to fix it. The motor will need a full rebuild I would think, it's been sitting for so long with water in the cylinders.

$1000, he could get more parting it.
Ninja edit, The title needs to be in your friends name to get a lost title, otherwise the po gets a new title so no real help there. With back taxes, title issues, toasted engine, poor repairs, etc, kinda hard to see past it being much other than part donor.
If he has the time and the space, he needs to part it. As is it is probably a $1500 car at best could get double that parting it
In reply to oldtin:
Ah I thought you could file for lost title with a bill of sale. It's not back taxes, they just didn't belive him on the purchase price.
I'm doubting he has the space to part it. It's in a storage unit, maybe tho.
Honesty he would probably take $1500, iirc he offered it to me for 2k.
Not worth $1500. He doesn't have a title, it has body damage and it doesn't run. Honestly without a title I wouldn't buy it at all. WTF was he thinking not getting the title in his name? That just reeks of shenanigans.
It's worth more than $1500 in parts, if he can get a good title and sell it to someone willing to spend the time to take it apart and deal with parting it out.
In reply to docwyte:
He's a good friend of mine, but has made a lot of decisions that made me say Wtf thru the years...
I'm sure he could get the title, but I don't know if he's willing to put the effort in as sad as that sounds.
Run away from that car. You should be asking how much he is going to pay you to take it off his hands.
Around here, you can't even donate or junk a car without a title. That's a deal-breaker, IMO.
Other than that, sounds like a parts car to me. The brakes and transaxle and such are valuable to people doing LS swaps.
In reply to Tom_Spangler:
Agreed Tom, im confident he 'could' get the tile with a little effort.
a couple pics.
The key is to get the title. Get that and I would give him $1500 for it. I have everything needed in storage to fix it and I have taken apart and fixed so many I these I don't remember how many. Where is the car located.

OP is in WA, and the car has WA tags. Might be in WA.
In reply to dean1484:
Yes it's is in WA I'll see if he will work on the title. Really the Lindsey stuff is easily worth 1500 if he's willing to part it. Seems non running shells are between 700 and 1000 around here.
I hate to see that get parted. It is one of my favorite colors and these cars are not nearly as common as they use to be. The performance parts on it don't help the value. They don't really hurt it but if I was purchasing it they are just there.
Please save it I you can. If it was closer I would be all over it but again that predicates that it has a title.
No title means you really don't own it.
In reply to dean1484:
Yeah I don't really want to see him sell it, it's been his dream car forever but he's in a hole and needs cash. It's just been sitting so long.
Iirc it's been resprayed, but decently done.
If I didn't have a project car I'd think about it... It was a boat load of fun when it was running.
These are fantastic driving cars, but also one of the highest maintenance of of the marque.
Having just brought back to life an '81 928 I would be all over this if it were closer.
OK bringing this up again, he wants it out of storage. Anyone one in WA area interested? It has lots of good parts on it..... I can start a FS thread if needed.
In reply to java230:
IF he has a title, I am very interested. If not, I'll give you $500.
In reply to Javelin:
Ill ask, he has it, not sure its in his name or not.
Likewise - Interested as well (but need a loooow price :)
