I'm looking for a little information on which direction I should go with the stereo in my daily driver. I've pretty much got the headunit and front speakers figured out (headunit with cd/mp3 capability and aux inputs for flash drives/mp3 players and some halfway decent 5 or 5.25" in the doors) but what I'm lacking is a little bit of midrange and bass. I was thinking of going one of three ways: 8" or 10" powered bass tube or getting a small 4 channel amp and hooking up either a single 8" sub or getting two 6x9's in some JC Whitney box enclosures. I'm looking for a mix of cost and low weight. This is in a '98 Hyundai Accent so weight would most definitely make a difference. I drive about 90 miles a day for work and I'm getting tired of listening to a pair of 4" speakers in the doors. LOL
I really like this for maybe a single 8" sub: http://www.edesignaudio.com/product_info.php?cPath=1_78_79&products_id=412
6x9 speaker encloser: http://www.millionbuy.com/hbx69anw.html
Thoughts/ideas? I have pretty expensive taste when it comes to stereo equipment but at this time I just can't afford to go that route so I'm looking for some good and inexpensive ideas....
I'd get an infinity basslink. They're easily removable, Grassroots actually did an article on a VW of some sort with Ronals, and the guy had a basslink back there.
You can find them used for under $200, and they're cake to install.
Ill take them all.
My sick mother in Nigeria will love them.
She will send a check.

I'm gonna go ahead and canoe that third post :)
make sure you ignore (fir the most part) peak power and match your amp with your speakers based on their RMS ratings. JL Audio makes great stuff and it can always be had at reasonable prices. Maybe one of their lower model 10" sub woofers matched up to a single channel amp. Not too expensive, but you'll get good sound.
You could do what I did and take the whole thing out. even when I drive a car with a radio now I don't listen to it . . .
It's too hard with my commute. I'm sure the 1.5L in the Accent would sound a little better uncorked but c'mon. I like my music too much... I have 42 gigs of music on my lappy that I'd love to be able to use in my car.
So match speakers to RMS rating... How does the sensitivity rating work? The lower or higher rating is better?
Higher sensitivity means the speaker is more effecient.
I got a VR3 head unit at wal-mart. It has removable face plate, Aux Input, USB port and SD carb slot. It was $79 and has been amazing.

I'm probably going to go the same route. Either that or I'll look for some clearance/refurb units online.
While I LOATHE the box...
I bought a $50.00 Insignia head unit from Beast Bribe that had dual RCA outs recently. It was on clearance but have seen them as recently as this weekend again for similar prices.
If your speakers are good buy a single 8" OR 10" sub and a moderate mono amplifier and be done with it.
I found an Alpine head unit for $125.00 at a yard sale. It was $500 new.
My speakers are pretty junk, they're the stock 4" units. I have a feeling with single sub, even a small one, I'll definitely be lacking...
That's a great deal! I've heard the Alpines are nice units. For whatever reason I have always had a thing for Eclipse units.
