I also think that cost and heritage is why dragsters run pushrod engines. They could easily get more from that displacement with a dohc but the cost would be seriously painful.

Top fuel engines are the way they are because of the rule book. They would have switched, or at least experimented with OHC and tutbocharging if allowed. The main reasoning is look how quick they are under these rule implementations. Can you imagine another 1-2,000 horsepower? There would be a lot of dead drivers.
