I'm always surprised that the GTI hangs in on that list.
In this case, I would've thought the Speed3 would've edged it out.

+1. An S2000 better than a Miata? are they even comparable? Different class of roadster there.

and the revised WRX better than both, but its not on the list either
I read somewhere that the Cobalt SS ran another Fastest Lap on the Nurburgring beating an Acura that held the record. And I still like the 25K Cobalt SS over the 35K Impreza WRX.
yeah, I think the Cobalt SS turbo sedan holds the record for production Front wheel drive?
on another note, Renault just broke the record for Front Wheel Drive cars with the Renaultsport Megane R26.R shod with Toyo Proxes R888's...8'17"
I believe the Cobalt just finished 1st and 2nd (against mostly S2000's and RX8's) in Touring 3 in the SCCA runoffs also.
Of course I am pretty sure their list is not "fastest" car, but more of an "all around best" car. I am curious what makes the GTI better than the Speed3 though? VW's legendary reliability!?!? Reading their description seems to describe a Speed3, but slower with less interior room...
I first subscribed to C&D in 1969. I stopped 2 years ago when they became Motor Turd with an ampersand in the middle. The only thing I missed was the 10 best list, thanks for showing me I'm not really missing anything.

And the Miata was the only 08 on a 09 10 best list.
C&D puts too much weight in their "gotta have it" score. They should leave the subjective part of the equation to the prospective buyers.

I once spent a day autocrossing an '07 GTI at a practice event -- I drove dozens of runs. The best part of the driving experience was the trip from the site to Wendy's for lunch. Seriously, it was a nice, comfortable car to drive around in on the street...but a soft, numb pusher around the cones.
