And now for something completely different..........At the local salvage yard today. First time I have ever seen a car put out in the yard with a tree still in it. 1970 Cadillac Eldorado for anyone who cares. Ok move along now.

Someone just needs to hang a big "3" on one of those branches, and you'll have a Cadillac with three on the tree.
Regardless a 70 eldorado is a cool car as it has the one year only big compression ratio 500 engine.

Cool. I learned something. Thanks.

1970 gross rating was 400 hp and 550 lbs feet of torque

500 cubic inches and front wheel drive
I thought they made the high-comp 500 in '69 too?
Regardless, someone grabbed a neat engine swap. They're small engines for their size. I hear that BBC headers can be made to work by changing the flanges.

Nope 70 only 69 eldorado still had the 472. Infact the 500 was exclusive to the eldorado until 1975.
In reply to Knurled. :
The 460 Ford's we're actually closer iirc. I'm still hoping to use these airboat headers on a Challenge vehicle.
In reply to MotorsportsGordon :
High school friend had a Cad with a 425, we always talked about doing a 500 swap.
Later, I did an engine and trans R&R on a '74 Eldo for a cleanup and re-gasketing. The trans needed the cherrypicker to move around, and the hood probably weighed as much as a Corolla shell. I think we still have the blue paint we had mixed up and put in spray cans, too.
Real neat engines. Of course, they weren't designed to be performance engines, they were designed to be ultrasmooth first, and secondarily have enough power to out-accelerate the plebes if conditions required it.
Memo to Turboeric: I knew there was a tree pun lurking in there somewhere, but I couldn't find it and you did. Nicely done. First beverage is on me if we ever meet.

400/550 sounds like performance to me

Engines can't read the name stamped on the valve cover.
Spectre runs a pair of 91mm turbos...and a flat tappet cam. Ran over 324.

I believe it. The trunk lid in the picture looks like a hood. Guess you needed 500 cubes to move that monster around.

Correction, it has gone 415mph. And with 2000hp a piece (twin-engined) on stock blocks and cranks. Of course, the block is cast out of Arma-Steel so they are beefy as hell. The big weakness on 472/500s is that the stock connecting rods and valvetrain is not happy over 3500rpm. Replace the rods, pushrods and rocker arms and it is ready to party
