Whats a good value for a '93 YJ Wrangler, 285 I6, manual, 4-link front and rear with "bulletproof" axles and 36's, full cage, hard top, soft top, winch?

Asking because another toy project is exactly what I need right now.

4 link?  What axles how well was the fab work done?

That 258 is an ok engine. But will still have a carb so reliable but low power.  I'd swap it for a 4.0.

means coilovers or coil springs instead of leafs like factory.  Axles matter, I would say 7k-10k depending on condition

Weird somebody would swap in the 4.2 in my eyes. Hopefully it's at least an AX15 behind it.

yeah axles matter..  also body rust but also quality of the fab work.

 

4 link can mean well contrsucted and thought out to I got me a buzz box and some well pipe..

I learned the AX15 5th gear still doesn't like 33s.  To throw a number out there if it was put together decently $8-9k. Adjust up or down for quality of parts that come with / on it. My reference is building up a '95 YJ over the past few years.  My rust free example still had the rear frame ends trying to return to the earth so watch out for all the Jeep rust areas.

Also metric dollars thrown at samurai axles that are bulletproof.

That's a 4.0 head and intake atleast, if it's a 258 it's had the newer efi put on it. About all I can tell you unfortunately.

I noticed that too. That looks a lot like a regular 4.0L. Although you can put a 258 crank in a 4.0L block.

I'd ask questions about the axles... If they're stock D44/9in, I'd say they're borderline with 36in tires - of course depending on driver and terrain. If they have upgraded shafts, they might be ok. Curious about lockers, gears, etc.

I'd pay $5k for that.

Yeah, I thought that might explain why it looks like a 4.0 but the Original post says 285 in it.

So I had 285 mixed up, paper on the dash says 258, badge on the back says 4.0. 

If I decide it isn't a horrible idea, I may talk to the guy and find out some more details. Right now I'm still doubtful that it makes sense as a replacement for my daily.

a lifted yj with 4links, 36's and lockers with just a 4.0 is not going to be daily firendly.

It's been a while since I was out of Jeep world.  But that seems a bit rough for a daily.  Good for a trail toy..but depends on how hard it was wheeled.. how is it going to handle at 50mph and beyond?

Looked over the ID markings a little closer. Appears to be a HO 4 liter with Dana 44 front with Warn manual lockers and 9-inch rear on 35s. Engine and axles have been opened up, judging by the use of RTV, so internals are a question mark.

I wouldn't be dailying it very far, under 20 miles a day, but it would need to be dead reliable. Fuel economy is an interesting variable as well.

What don't I know about 4 link/large tires/lifted at road speed? I would assume it would be big and squashy with steering that you point rather than aim. And whiny tire tread.

it might get double digit gas mileage. I assume since it was designed as a trail toy you will be chasing death wobble all the time.
