I keep checking this thread and Calvin's Fb page to see if there's been any news.  I saw that he's got a YouTube video up about what happened and I honestly don't know if I want to watch it because it's just going to bum me out.

I hope he can get his car back at least, and not get too badly burned on whatever he's offered by the insurance company.

It will bum you out can confirm but still more views is more good. He is more composed than I would be in the same situation but he sounds well quite frankly sad and exhausted, for the nicest most upbeat group of people I know it's a difficult tone to hear.

I'm watching Calvin on the YouTube right now and am so terribly saddened by this. Unfortunately, I can understand all too well precisely how this feels and the challenge that it is to remain positive after getting suckered punched by fate.

The material things are only (highly valued) things; I am glad to see that you are all still safe and strong as a family. Honestly, I cannot think of anything helpful at the moment but don't hesitate to call!

Everyone involved in racing hates how they don't build motels where you can just open the room door and walk right out into the parking lot anymore. Instead you wind up on the fifth floor insulated from any sounds of break-ins you could otherwise hear. Even if you are on the 2nd floor the bad guys know you're basically trapped in the building and will take a long time to get to them.

I was 3hrs from home after driving FL > PA > FL to buy an RX7 race car off of this forum.  Stopped at a Days Inn near Daytona, checking in at ~1am for some rest.  Lots of signs at the office about parking and their towing policy.  Ask the desk guy where to park the truck and trailer.  I parked in the area he pointed to, with the rig backed up to a fence.  Wake up in the morning and the whole shebang is gone.

Tow company cut the lock, separated the trailer, and towed everything to their yard.  Shocked that they gave it back to me after I had them talk with the front desk, only cost me an uber.

I hope this rig is found!

In reply to GCrites :

That is true. As a normal traveling, I’d rather not have the door of my hotel room open to the outside world. I just feel safer.

But when there’s a car involved, yeah, it’s comforting. Somewhere I have a photo of our Porsche parked right outside our hotel room. It was one of those older-style places in Tampa.

Just leave your pet snake in the truck cab to guard it. Even if they do steal it, you will find it abandoned down the road. devil
